While my accounts are now with XXXX, consolidated and I am making a single payment, the loans were LOST after a XX/XX/XXXX medical bankruptcy. My issue is with Van Ru. I was screamed at, sworn at, had similar issues with XXXX and Van Ru ... nobody could tell me who had which loan, what was in rehab and what was not, and after rehabbing " all my loans '', they hadn't been, and mysteriously 8 into 9 payments of each rehab, " there was a paperwork error in house and your rehab was never signed off on ''. Each time the loans changed hands, THOUSANDS in collections fees were added to the loans, and capitalized. Since XX/XX/XXXX, I've paid the principal, and over, in interest and collections and rehab fees. I have a very enlightening recording of one call with Van Ru attached here, not objectively the worst call, with Van Ru but it highlights the issues with them and how they parse the truth since the objective is to KEEP you in loan purgatory-between default and rehab, and an article in MONEY described the calls I also received from their hit-man collector ( called me a XXXX and so forth, a waste of space and air, a failure, etc. ) XXXX and XXXX also had those calls. Then, you would get a call from someone else saying, sorry about all the horrible calls, but I am the nice person from here, and I can fix this for you ( and you would have the auto-dial calling stop ). I don't owe all of what I have in repayment. I also have screenshots showing that XXXX can't even get their ( current ) website info together. I complained, they were really annoyed, and they appear to have fixed it ( now ), but still. Fun stuff. So, I would like to negotiate a percentage of what is owed and be done with this loans. The ombudsman took 6 months to retrace what all had happened and said it was one of the worst cases he had ever seen, a huge headache for him, and verified the loans were lost for years in fact. If nobody could find them when I was trying to repay them, and were like " yep, it's paid '', well XXXX. I want to pay it, but not the interest on when it couldn't even be found. I was paying a collector based on a report on my credit that I owed money without any verification that I actually did owe the money, since nobody had the paperwork! That, I think, is telling about the chain of custody issues described in some of the lawsuits.Total chaos with Van Ru. XXXX and XXXX had people call to say horrible things to you, and at XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX, put me on auto-dialer with a fax for weeks. Awful. The one collector from Van Ru, I specifically mentioned to the Ombudsman, had threatened to burn down my house. This is not an exaggeration, this really went on. People overhead the calls on speakerphone, once my employer picked up and was screamed at.

We contacted Van Ru Credit Corporation after receiving a letter about a XXXX XXXX debt. The letter was issued 4 days after my stepson received his driver 's license. We later received a similar letter from another Debt collector on behalf of XXXX. Except for the inconvenience of getting my stepson ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX ) to understand why these people insist on talking to him personally about this, it 's easy enough to get dismissed as the social security number they have on file does not match my stepson 's. The representative at Van Ru advised that they themselves do not track down debtors or look up their addresses. He claimed that they get this from the creditor along with the case. In this case that was XXXX XXXX. So this is how I am looking at it : XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX used exclusively the public availability of an address matching the name of one of their bad customers to assign the debt to that person and pass it to a debt collector. In the case of some foreign name, they enjoy the added benefit of many of them having the same name, many not speaking or understanding English well and most of them fearing any public exposure. Certainly, they might get lucky and find the right person, but in the process falsely accusing other people that happen to have the same name. More likely they rely on that most people will cough up the money even if not owed by them to avoid the things these letters are threatening with. This is no different than a bank sponsored version of the IRS email/phone scam threatening people with jail etc. if they do n't pay. That scam is estimated to have netted the scammers more than $ 0.5B, so I can see why somebody in a bank thought it would be a good idea. But that does n't make it more acceptable. I hope that it, as in this case targeting minority rarely able to defend themselves, is a coincidence. If not, It just makes the whole thing more despicable This is banks conducting their own flavor of identity theft. I am not sure if this is protected against in FDCPA, as it is not the debt collector actually committing the questionable act - it is the bank acting on incomplete data. With the recent exposure of the business practices of a major bank of loading customers with unnecessary accounts, it is not hard to imagine banks also engaging in this form of scam.

I have a student loan in which I have been done both consolidation and rehabilation but I defaulted again. My check was being garnished as well as my Federal Income taxes have been taken. I borrowed {$20000.00} to go to college. After defaulting on the consolildation it went up to XXXX after failing to comply with that going into default my student loan became {$39000.00}. I admit that I have not taken care of this matter as best I should have But I think my rights as a consumer is voliated when I am told by the Collecting Agency that payment that were taken by garnishment do n't really count as payment because I did not make any voluntarily payments But Van Ru has garnished by pay for over three years as well as my income taxes are being kept. I know that Van Ru is being investigated for charging outrageous interest on student loans. I know that over {$40000.00} have been paid by me either directly or taken through garnishments or taxes. I will like to know why I was told by Van Ru that there is nothing that I can do to ever come out of default with my student loans. I think that is a punishment which is to severe. I will like to know my true total that is owe to Federal Student Loan. I am trying to get out of default with my student loan, I think it is ridiculous to say that I still owe {$60000.00} in student loans when you look at my payments I have paid well over the {$20000.00}. that I have borrowed originally. I have signed up for student loan forgiveness programs and paid but I was told that I do not qualify for any programs to come out of default. There are student loans forgiveness program that are out taken consumers money..When they do not have the ability to help you. But they are charging these outrageous fees. They tell you that it is a money back guarantee. I paid an agency that promised to assist me student loan forgiveness and they just took my money. I understand that I allowed my loans to go into default. But to take my through garnishment and taxes and tell me that the payment are going towards fee charged by the agency and interest. But yet no even making a dint in the principal which is about three time what I have borrowed. How many times am I going to pay {$20000.00} that I originally borrowed. This is wrong on so many level. It is inhumane.

I had an outstanding balance for a medical bill in the amount of {$240.00} that went to collections in XXXX, XXXX. Van Ru Credit Corporation had obtained the debt and seeked payment. I began paying off the bill gradually with a final payment of {$70.00} made on XXXX XXXX, XXXX. Once I made the payment, I received no more letters and phone calls. On XXXX XXXX, XXXX at XXXX ET, I received a call from Van Ru Credit Corporation requesting a payment for the amount of {$70.00}. I repeatedly told the representative that the balance had been paid in full with a Confirmation Numbrer verifying the payment made. The representative had then begun to harass me, completely ignoring that I had mentioned numerous times that I had made the payment. She then completely gave up and transferred me to a Supervisor who then seeked payment for the balance owed. I told the Supervisor 5 Times that I had made the payment and have a confirmation number. The supervisor kept over-talking me every time I said I made the payment. I then told the Supervisor either you accept the Confirmation Number or this call will end. I then gave the Supervisor the Confirmation Number and the call ended. On Friday XXXX XXXX, XXXX between XXXX and XXXX, Van Ru Credit Corporation called me repeatedly 4 Times. I then called them only to talk to another representative. I told her I made a Payment to bring the account Paid in Full with a Confirmation Number. The representative kept saying I still owe the money as she could n't find a confirmation number in my record and that I must pay it or the calls will not end. I asked the representative by request a Letter validating the remaining balance owed of {$70.00} and she kept ignoring my request and persisted in requesting a payment to be made. I then told the representative that By Law, I am allowed to request a letter in writing verifying and validating the debt owed to Van Ru Credit Corporation. The representative decided to say that a letter will be sent. I asked how long it will take to receive the letter? The representative said " When I get around to it, you will get it. ''

I was attending XXXX University ( online ), my term started XXXX/XXXX/15 and ended XXXX/XXXX/15. On XXXX/XXXX/15 I informed my student advisor due to a XXXX and health factors I need to drop out of school. After having to call again on XXXX/XXXX/15 because no action was taken and speaking to XXXX different student advisors and XXXX financial advisors I was able to drop my classes and was told I had to pay before I could attend classes again which I was fine with. XXXX/XXXX/15 bill from XXXX University showed no charges and the XXXX/XXXX/15 bill showed the charges for the classes I dropped. On XXXX/XXXX/15 I got a call from Van Ru Credit Corporation stating I have not paid my bill in 131 days ( which would be XXXX/XXXX/15 ) and the XXXX term that I owed for did n't even start until XXXX/XXXX/15. She also stated that at 135 days that they would start tacking on interest and report to credit bureaus as bad credit. I tried to work with XXXX University where XXXX people there and XXXX people at Van Rue Credit told me that they were not a part of XXXX University and they could n't help me. So I did n't even have a bill saying what I owed until XXXX/XXXX/15, was threatened that I only had 4 days to pay on XXXX/XXXX/15 or it would be reported to credit bureaus as bad credit, and that I had n't paid in 131 days even though the classes I was paying for had n't started till XXXX/XXXX/15 which was only 86 days from the first phone call I received about it, and only 3 days from the first bill I received regarding the debt.

I had a collection beacuse I have not paid to XXXX XXXX and They pass the account to Van Ru Credit Corporation. I talk to this company and agree to pay the amounted owned. So they will sent me a paid of letter. That happened XXXX XXXX After paying they told me that they will send that paid off letter and I was expecting that letter and I never get it. Finaly in XXXX XXXX , the collection company send me a paid off letter, however I do not need that letter from them. I want to buy a house and they do not provide me the letter from XXXX XXXX , which is my original company that I used to own money. I have contact them many, many times ... they told me sometimes yes, we will send you the letter, another times they keep telling me No ... You need to write a letter to request us that paid off letter, and I did so XXXX XXXX , and I receive a letter from them this time they said that they are unable to fulfill my request. I see no reason for them to do so if I have paid off what they ask me .... What is the problem I have contact them at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as many times as i can.. Almost four times a week.. They even record the communications Also they said ok I will let you speak to another department and they tranfer me as many times as they want It is like they are playing with me and my time. This process started in XXXX, XXXX. I contacted VanRu in an attempt to rehab my loan after confirming that they received my packet ( with the salary information and all the paperwork ). I was under the impression that I would be on the reahab loan. I contacted a few months later to check on the status of this- they said that everything looked good and I had a few months left to complete the rehab program. After a while- I realized that the loan had not been moved to a different servicer- I called them again to check on this. They claimed that they never received the paperwork and that all of the payments did not apply to the rehab program. They claimed that they would submit the required paperwork by email /mail and that they would need to be filled out and returned. After a week or so, I contacted them again to ask for the paperwork, they claimed that this has been submitted to me and I have received them. When this happened again- they submitted a loan consolidation application paperwork- not the paperwork required for the loan rehab program. I had been making monthly payments for several years and they continue to send me letters saying that the payments are collected by wage garnishments which is false. Now this loan apparently has been deferred to a DIFFERENT collection agency. This loan should have been in good standing as of XXXX.

Van Ru Credit Corporation has been continually attempting to collect a debt on behalf of a medical bill based on services that were not properly documented by a hospital outside of my primary provider 's network. This matter was resolved with the provider ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ), and the external provider was notified of the proper documentation and billing procedures for these services. I have a recorded phone call conversation between myself, my primary provider ( XXXX XXXX ) , and XXXX , where all parties involved acknowledged next steps to take ( in the form of a resolution between XXXX and XXXX ). XXXX is required to submit new information, including documented medical codes ( this is at the root of the billing issue ) so tha t the claim can be properly processed. I should no longer be involved in the claims process, other than to be alerted of a resolution. That conversation took place XX/XX/XXXX . I have experienced continual harassment in the form of collection letters and phone calls since the time the services were rendered-that was in XX/XX/XXXX . I have sent a number of letters to the parties attempting to collect debt, and have documentation verifying that these letters were received.

We have been receiving automated " robo-calls '' from an anonymous source for months. This past week we received a personal message from Van Ru Credit Corporation. We called them back and they immediately asked for confidential personally identifying information over the phone ( last XXXX digits of my wife 's social security number ). When we refused to give that to them, they refused to give us any information about what they are calling us about. We have never dealt with this company and we have no known outstanding debts owed to anyone. They would neither confirm nor deny that they have attempted to notify us through mail, nor would they agree to send us correspondence by registered mail. They would not provide us with the address they have on file despite the fact that they obviously have our home phone number. They would not tell us what the matter was about. They would not tell us how long the matter has been outstanding. At this point we have no information other than the phone number they left on our message machine and a completely unproductive personal phone conversation. Van Ru Credit Corporation along with XXXX is attempting to garnish my wages beginning XX/XX/XXXX, for an old student loan. The original debt owner has already written this debt off and recovered from any lost funds. I have already been punished by having a derogatory account on my credit report for many, many years and now Van Ru Credit Corporation and XXXX have purchased this old debt and intend to make money off of it for a second time ( or perhaps more because that 's how these creditors operate, buying and selling these multiple times ) and negatively impact my livelihood. This is unscrupulous and in complete violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act because the statute of limitations for this debt has run out. This loan occurred in Indiana and the statute of limitations for debts in Indiana varies from 6 years at the minimum to 10 years at the maximum. This debt occurred no later than XX/XX/XXXX, which is XXXX years ago. I am asking the CFPB to intervene on my behalf and aggressively halt all procedures by Van Ru Credit Corporation and XXXX to obtain any further monies from this expired debt.

A man by the name of XXXX XXXX contacted me today ( XXXX ) with a phone number of XXXX. However the phone number that appears on my caller ID is XXXX with unavailable name. When they leave a message they state that they are attempting to collect a debt with XXXX as the company name. Today when the man called ( XXXX ) he was very rude and told me that he needed to speak to my husband XXXX immediately! I told him that he was at work! He wanted to know where he worked and I just told him in XXXX. I told him that I was his wife and asked if I could help him .... he said he needed XXXX 's social security number and I asked what the company name was and he would n't tell me so I told him that I would n't tell him the social security number. Then he asked for his date of birth ... again I told him I was NOT giving him any information unless he told me what company it was for. He said that he could n't give me any information until he knows if it 's the right person. I '' M NOT GIVING HIM ANY INFORMATION!!! I DO N'T KNOW THIS PERSON!!!

My wife and I have been getting phone calls from XXXX. The caller says that they are a debt collector and want to verify that I am who they are trying to contact by giving them my SSAN. I did a reverse phone look-up on XXXX and the owner 's name is not available. So, I called XXXX and the answering machine claims I was call the Van Ru debt collection agency. Someone came on the line and wanted me to verify my name and phone number before he would tell me why I was calling. I asked if he had caller I.D . and he said yes. So, I told he knows who is calling him and I want to know why they were calling us. He said that he could not provide that information unless I gave him my social security number. So, I hung up and called the New Hampshire Attorney General 's Office who asked me to call the FTC at XXXX. I did and am filing a complaint. The New Hampshire Attorney General 's Office said that the Van Ru phone calls are a scam and that they are phishing for data. Here 's the kicker - I do n't owe anybody anything!

On or about XXXX XXXX, 2015 I received a call and I believe that they identified themselves as debt collectors. They did not say who they were attempting to collect the debt from and asked me to provide an address or my Social Security Number. I found this quite disturbing and improper. I asked them who they were attempting to collect the debt from and they did not have an answer for that. I said that the phone number has been mine for a few years so you might be looking for someone else. I asked what company she was from and she stated Van Ru Credit Corporation. I see that it is likely that there are multiple complaints against this company on the internet ; my negative assumption is that they are as corrupt as the rest of the State of Illinois that they reside in. It would be greatly appreciated if you could find out if they are cold calling for phishing purposes or other fraudulent schemes. Thank you very much.

Up until about 5 years ago my wages were being garnished for student loans, since that time I have remained in good standing on XXXX loans. Evidently at the time there was a XXXX XXXX loan that was not sent to XXXX the people collecting for the other XXXX loans. About two months ago with no warning my wages were garnished by Van Ruh again. Federal law clearly states they have to give me 30 days notice and I received NOTHING. After much grief I finally got the education dept to take off the garnishment. I wanted the loan consolidated with the other XXXX loans so I could just continue. Then without any warning whatsoever they garnished my wages again 2 weeks ago. I had been told by the dept. of education that before they could consolidate the loan Van Ruh would have to remove some block. When I called Van Ru they kept saying it was being taken care of. I believe they should be sued or fined.

I received a threatening letter from a Van Ru Credit Corporation about a {$20.00} balance towards XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. We have no debt with this company as far as I can tell with research, and have no outstanding balances with any of our medical practitioners. Normally, XXXX XXXX will send us a paper bill within 30 days of any appointment, but we have not had a XXXX ( local hospital group XXXX related appointment for nearly a year now. Additionally, when they send us a bill, it is always on the exact same form. This is a company I have never heard of, and in highly questionable font and format. Because we take extraordinary care to monitor our credit score, seeing this XXXX confused and upset me. I do n't recall having even a 'first ' notice on any {$20.00} debt to XXXX XXXX XXXX much less ignoring something long enough to require debt collection. Also ... {$20.00}? What an odd amount.

I wanted to notify that there is XXXX ( or more ) people falsely operating under a legitimate corporations name in order to obtain personal information from people such as SSN, dob, names and addresses. After a repeated requests from my boyfriend for further information before he would provide any personal " verification '' they hung up. I researched the phone number and found they had been doing this as far back as 2009. I have listed their website below for your information and in case it assists you in any action you would like to take. I found it after listening to the original voice mail they left again and calling back " after business hours '' and receiving the recording. I received a letter from the Van Ru Credit Corporation dated XXXX/XXXX/2015 stating that Van Ru was attempting to make a debt collection in the amount of {$25.00} on behalf of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I received no contact from XXXX XXXX XXXX regarding my " debt. '' The last I used any medical service through XXXX was in XXXX 2015 in which I processed payment on XXXX XXXX, 2015. This claim presented to me from Van Ru is erroneous. When I went to their online site at XXXX, I saw that the url was not secure meaning that if I were to disclose any financial information on that site, it would not be safe. The notice from Van Ru does not describe the service and date in which the obligation was incurred. I know the claim is invalid and I found multiple reviews online indicating the debt collection scams perpetrated by Van Ru.

This actually is in reference to my previous complaint XXXX but apparently you do n't have a way to send additional comments on a complaint. I had n't received a status since last XXXX. The company offered me a settlement and allowed me to make payments on the settlement thru my garnishment.
