My former wife acquired a property in XXXX. I was never on the deed to the property and never lived there. She obtained at least two home equity lines of credit and one mortgage while she owned the house. I was not listed on any of the notes. Since Illinois has homestead laws, I signed a release that I will have no ownership interest in the property and that it will not be a marital asset. The name shown on the notes was " ( her ), married to ( me ) ''. She alone signed the notes, and I only ever signed the homestead release. The loans were originated with XXXX in XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. In XXXX, XXXX was acquired by XXXX XXXX, and in XXXX, XXXX XXXX was acquired by XXXX. In XXXX, XXXX filed a Lis Pendens against BOTH of us. I am now trying to get a mortgage myself, and I only became aware of this when my credit was pulled and my mortgage company told me I had THREE mortgage collections with XXXX XXXX and a recently closed mortgage with multiple late payments. By searching public records, I found out that XXXX sold one of these debts to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX of XXXX. On the Assignment of Mortgage that is public record, it still lists the borrower as ( former wife ), married to ( me ). I never had any association with this property, and I was never obligated on any of these mortgages.
