Unifin Inc services a medical debt from XXXX XXXX. Not only did I not receive any statement regarding this bill, but I received misinformation and was not treated fairly. I was offered a 20 % settlement off of the XXXX, but was quoted a different amount. I let the representative know that the amount I was quoted which was around, XXXX was not 20 % of the balance. She then said she would put me down as a refusal to pay. I complained and said in collections theres a difference between a refusal to pay and an inability to pay and I was unable to make payments. I let her know my situation and my consideration to file bankruptcy. I also let the representative know I live in Massachusetts and per regulation, I shouldnt be receiving frequent calls or calls outside of appropriate call times. I continue to receive calls late at night passed XXXX. This agency outsources to a callcenter in XXXX, which has been my primary communication. I let them know I later retained an attorney and am in the process to file a Ch XXXX. Yesterday I got a call at XXXX XXXX from the same XXXX number that had called me previously where the rep identified themselves as unison. Today I called to speak to a manager and she insisted there was a cease and desist on my account. I told her I know it was her company because the XXXX location calls me from a XXXX number and I dont receive collection calls except from that number. The representative prior to me speaking to the manager informed me that XXXX follows a different protocol and he has no knowledge of how they conduct their practices. I asked the manager how she knows it wasnt XXXX placing the calls, and she said because its time stamped. So I asked her why I was getting calls from the same XXXX number. She said it wasnt her company and continued to yell at me because XXXX documents their call stamps. So I asked if their XXXX location uses an automated dialer of which it would document the account for the rep or if the rep manually places the call, she said she doesnt know the back end of their practices. I asked for the address so I can include it in my bankruptcy petition and was told they couldnt give it out to me, but that if I type XXXX incorporated into XXXX, Ill be able to find it. After not being able to find the address, I call Unifin Inc again. The representative asks me why I needed the address. I told her I was filing a chapter XXXX bankruptcy and already have an attorney and that I need the amount due, name of creditors and the address for my bankruptcy. The representative asked me why I was filing a chapter XXXX, I then asked her why would she need to know and why was it relevant? This representative hangs up on me. So I call back, I repeat my introduction and tell the representative I am filing bankruptcy and need the companys address for my petition. She asked me why I didnt want to resolve the debt, I told her the debt would be resolved in a chapter XXXX, she then tried to overcome my objection and I told her I already retained an attorney and need the address. In the middle of giving me the address, she places me on hold and transfers me to a manager without telling me she was transferring me to a manager. I asked the manager if she was the same individual I spoke with before. She said no. She continued the call with offering me settlements after already being notified several times even through previous calls that I have an attorney. I told her I was having trouble locating the company because they identify as XXXX and I cant locate a business entity that practices collections under that name. She insisted they are legitimate and gave me their website. According to their website, they identify as Unifin inc, not XXXX XXXX every representative pronounces the company as XXXX not Unifin. I let her know not only do I need an address but I want to file a complaint based on my experience with them. She then proceeded to tell me theres a cease and desist on my account and theres no way I could have calls, but when I tried asking about their XXXX location because thats where I get these calls, she refused to address the issue and cut me off and said that because I retained and attorney she was going to terminate the call and told me she didnt grant me permission to record the call right before hanging up on me. Ive been working in collections for several years, and not once have I worked for a company that conducts their business the way Unifin Inc conducts their business. I urge the CFPB to investigate the company and their outsourced call center because I believe they are in violation of the FDCPA as well. My concerns werent documented and the managers either yelled at me or talked over me and then terminated the calls. The previous agents call me from a XXXX number consistently and when I return the call its a number that doesnt go through unless I answer while it calls. They dont identify themselves as the appropriate Unifin inc and instead pronounced it differently which is highly misleading. Additionally, they offer settlements and quote different amounts to the percentage initially quoted and then back pedal. There was also one call I had with a representative where the mini Miranda was not read to me.

I was sent a collection letter XX/XX/XXXX. The collection letter didn't have my personal information just the name of the business I dissolved in XXXX. I sent them an email through their portal, notice that this debt was time barred per my state ( MT ) statute. I did ask for the originator and date of the debt. I asked to not be contacted regarding this collection attempt. I did receive a reply dated XX/XX/XXXX, stating that I " can not be sued, nor can the debt be reported to the credit bureau based on the age of the account ''. The originating company is XXXX XXXX XXXX with the date of the debt on XX/XX/XXXX and an account charge off date of XX/XX/XXXX. The letter states " It is not a credit card or other account statement from the original creditor ''. The " debt '' was sold to XXXX XXXX XXXX, then to XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX is representing XXXX XXXX XXXX. Again, this is allegedly a debt from XX/XX/XXXX. Current date is XX/XX/XXXX. This debt is XXXX XXXX XXXX. Subject : Request for Investigation and Removal of Inaccurate Debt Reporting. I am writing to file a formal complaint against Unifin Inc. regarding their failure to substantiate a debt they claim is owed by me. I have sent them a written request for debt validation, but they have not provided the necessary documentation within the prescribed timeframe. I believe that Unifin Inc. has violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ) and the New York Regulation 23 NYCRR 1.4 by refusing to comply with my request for validation of the debt. I am seeking your assistance in resolving this matter and having the inaccurate account removed from my credit file. Details related to the debt in question are as follows : - Amount owed : {$890.00} As per 23 NYCRR 1.4 ( c ), Unifin Inc. is required to provide substantiation of the debt, which includes the following : 1. The signed contract or application that created the debt, or, if neither exists, a copy of a document given to the alleged debtor while the account was active, demonstrating that the debt was, in fact, incurred by the debtor. If the debt was incurred under a revolving credit account, this could include the most recent monthly statement showing a purchase, payment, or balance transfer. 2. The account statement at charge-off, or equivalent document, that the original creditor issued to the consumer. 3. A statement describing the debts complete chain of title from the original creditor to the present creditor, including the date of each assignment, sale, and transfer. 4. Records showing the amount and date of any prior debt settlement agreement in connection with the debt agreed to after the effective date of these regulations. I have also exercised my rights under the FDCPA to request verification and validation of the debt from Unifin Inc., but they have failed to provide the requested information. As a result, I am unsure of the validity of this debt and believe that it is inaccurate. I kindly request the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter and take the following actions : 1. Instruct Unifin Inc. to remove the inaccurate and unverified debt from my credit file if they fail to provide the required substantiation. 2.Take appropriate actions against Unifin XXXX for their failure to comply with the FDCPA and applicable regulations. I have attached a copy of the written request I sent to Unifin Inc. for your reference. Additionally, I have included any relevant supporting documents that may assist in your investigation. I understand the importance of accurate credit reporting, and I believe that resolving this matter is essential to maintaining the integrity of my credit profile. Your intervention in this case is greatly appreciated. Please acknowledge receipt of this complaint and provide me with any updates or actions taken to address the issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to a prompt resolution.

I have on many occasions disputed a debt listed in my Credit Reporting file, the debt listed is XXXX and is for a debt they supposedly purchased from a company called XXXX XXXX. In response to each dispute, I have received a message stating the debt is verified as mine. I have not done business with XXXX XXXX and have requested multiple times a document signed by myself be produced for my review reflecting my authorization of the original account being opened, neither XXXX or XXXX have produced a document of any type and I only get a notice that the debt has been verified. I am again disputing this debt as not mine and it still remains listed as a verified debt on my Credit Reporting file. Is it now allowed in the United States in conflict with Federal Law to just pick random people as a business and claim that they owe you money without ever having to produce any form of legal documentation to verify a debt? I have disputed this so many times and I have never had one piece of legal documentation provided to me with my signature, yet I constantly receive notices the debt was verified. I have requested many times a copy of whatever process was used to verify the debt along with any documentation that has been provided by XXXX to XXXX as verification that the debt is mine, XXXX has failed each time to produce any documentation of the verification process they supposedly used to verify the debt. It should be my legal right to request documentation with a signature reflecting my authorization of the original account, as a matter of preventing identity theft. If there is never legal documentation provided as verification, what do we have to prevent identity theft by unknown individuals or false claims of a debt by unscrupulous businesses within the United States. If a business only needs to make the claim that a debt is owed then never has to produce signed documentation to verify the debt was authorized, it opens the door ( all United States Citizens ) to the potential of Identity Theft by unknown individuals or businesses not operating within the guidelines of Federal and State laws to unfair debt collection and Credit Reporting, it will force individuals into paying debts they never owed in order to attempt correcting the issue and getting a valuable credit score back. I am not only filing this complaint with the CFPB, I am also filing a complaint with the Nebraska Attorney General and filing a complaint with the United States Attorney. I am also forwarding all responses from day one involving all complaints files, disputes files, etc. to our Senator and Congressman to bring attention to this matter and possibly start a change in the laws.

I received a few calls recently on my cellphone from people asking to speak with my mother. I asked what it was regarding or who was calling or what it was about, and they'd respond with the same script, " it's a personal matter and we can only discuss it with [ my mother ], now can I speak with her? '' This would go on and on until they'd hang up. Other times I'd tell them wrong number, don't call. Yet they kept calling. So today,XX/XX/XXXX at about XXXX, when I received the call, I decided to prod deeper on who this is. I asked my questions and they gave me the same script. So once they hung up on me, I called back. Told them I was in fact the person they were looking for ( I was not ), and they proceeded to ask me to verify ( my mother 's ) name, address, and social security number - all of which was accurate. I did not confirm, told them they had the wrong address and soc, and they refused to work further with me. I told them that they must, because they got my name correct. They hung up on me. I called again, with the same song and dance, but this time I claimed to be power of attorney for my mother. The rep, wanting proof, told me I could fax or email. I said email since that could give me info - it did. They wanted it emailed to XXXX. With quick research, unifinrs is a debt collection company based out of IL. I then began to grill this woman on the company, and she would stop to speak to somebody in the background. I made mention of this person in a flippant way, and he decided to get on the phone. A very aggressive man named XXXX. He refused to spell his last name, but it's pronounced XXXX, XXXX, or XXXX, I couldn't make it out. He then argued with me and gave me scripted lines as well when I'd ask for information about what the calls are regarding. He hangs up on me. I continued calling back asking to speak with him, since he hung up on me. So that I may tell him to not call and that I'd be reporting him. Also to ask for his name spelled. I was put on hold and left there, so I kept calling asking for him. Finally reached him, he argued with me and when I said I was going to report them for harassment, he then said I was the one harassing them. He refused to spell his last name and we parted ways. With research, unifinrs specializes in old XXXX debt. This makes sense since the only thing in collections for my mother is an unjust and disputed XXXX bill from pre-XXXX. This company calls and harasses and spits out social security numbers, without stating who they are, when they call from spoof numbers, and are rude in the process, for debts that are over 7 years old.

I received several calls from Unifin during business hours while I was at my job, but never any voicemails. After receiving 5 calls on a XXXX afternoon from the same number, I called back and was greeted with " How may I direct your call? '' - I let them know that I had received several missed calls from this number and was calling back to see what it was in regards to. I was then directed to a gentleman by the name of XXXX XXXX who told me that I had just been put into collections for a hospital bill that was over 5 years old. Long story short, ( over the course of a week ) I was told to call 4 different doctors offices and physicians groups to see where the unpaid debt had come from. I was under the impression that debt collectors had this information prior to contacting you, but because I was desperate to be taken out of collections, I called. After calling all 4 places, they all let me know that I was in good standing, and was never delinquent. I called XXXX back for 4 days where I was only able to leave messages. The following XXXX, I had called in again and had spoken to XXXX where he told me yet again to call another doctor to see where my debt had come from. I asked him why that number was n't provided to me originally? He put me on hold where another gentleman got on the line and let me know he was the manager. When I asked his name and the collections agency he and XXXX were with, there was silence on the other line. When I asked again, he very defensively let me know that he was just trying to help me settle my debt and that I was responsible to pay. I told him that I was happy to pay, but I needed to know this information. Again, silence on the other line. This went on for about 3 minutes before I began to get very nervous and started crying. Why are these people harassing me at work and then refusing to tell me who they are when I am trying to do right by my debts and pay them off? I hung up and called back into the main line, asked the man who picked up what the name of the company was. He told me Unifin and that was the only way I was able to find out who was calling me since the other Unifin employees refused to tell me any information. I ended up finding out that this information was false and I did not owe money for a medical debt. This is harassment and terrible business practice. Please beware and make sure to do your research if this company ever calls you!

I paid a debt that was for XXXX, and it was paid to UNIFIN. I was told by the representative on the phone the debt would be reported to the credit bureau within 30 days, as I wanted to be sure it was reported. I am a single mother trying to pay off my debts to get a home for my son and I, and this was very important to me. 30 days passes, and it was not showing on my credit report. I called back, and another rep told me it should show soon. 60 days passes. I eventually received another bill in the mail showing an oustanding balance, and I was very upset. I called and was told this was inaccurate and that the bill was already paid. When I asked why it had not been reflected on my credit report yet a lady named XXXX ( I believe? ) said " sorry, this account isn't reported to the creditors. '' I called XXXX, XXXX XXXX, Unifin -- - no one cares that it has not been reported to the creditors, although when I called Unifin and e-mailed in response to their receipt showing my payment I was told twice before it would be reported. There should be recordings of this since they always say " this call is being monitored '' .... yet no one can seem to pull up a recording when I ask them to, as that will prove what I am saying is true. This is not right. I reported to the XXXX, and the company still contested it saying the account is not reported to creditors. Why did two different reps tell me twice it would be reported- just to get my money? I still show a derogatory account on my credit report to XXXX. I even mailed XXXX a letter, and they were no help. THIS HAS BEEN PAID!!!!!!! I have the receipt where I paid the settled balance Unifin offered in full with my debit card on XX/XX/2020. Had I known this would happen, I would have required it be put in writing that it would be reported to the creditors. I took the reps for their word. This is so unethical, and I have done every possible thing I can to hold them accountable to what I was promised. Something as simple as reporting my account was paid in full for the settled balance -- to eliminate it showing as derogatory, because I did my part of paying my balance.

I received an attempt to collect a debt in the amount of {$5400.00} letter dated XX/XX/XXXX from Unifin. The letter clearly stated " Unless you notify this office within 30 days after receiving this notice that you dispute the validity of the debt or any portion thereof, the office will assume this debt is valid ''. This clearly means that prior to that 30 days, the office should not assume that the debt is valid yet on XX/XX/XXXX, I received a credit monitoring alert that I had a new collection account which was reported by the company unlawfully and to make matters worse ; the item is showing as a collection item under the name XXXX XXXX XXXX ( a company I have NEVER had communication with nor has an attempt been made to contact me ) and falsely reporting that the account was opened on XX/XX/XXXX. The letter further states that " If you notify this office in writing within 30 days from receiving this notice, that the debt or any portion thereof is disputed, this office will obtain verification of the debt or obtain a copy of a judgment and mail a copy of such judgement or verification ''. Please be advised I have requested VALIDATION { not verification } ( Notarized and mailed via USPS Within The 30 Days of XX/XX/XXXX ) of an item sold to Unifin by the original creditor/collection agency. I have received a response that clearly violates my rights. According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 609 ( a ) ( 1 ) ( A ), you are required by federal law to verify - through the physical verification of the original signed consumer contract - any and all accounts you post on a credit report. Otherwise, anyone paying for your reporting services could fax, mail or email in a fraudulent account. I demand to see Verifiable Proof ( an original Consumer Contract with my Signature on it ) you have on file of the accounts listed below. Your failure to positively verify these accounts has hurt my ability to obtain credit. Under the FCRA, unverified accounts must be removed and if you are unable to provide me a copy of verifiable proof, you must remove the above mentioned accounts.

I receive continuing telephone calls from the phone number XXXX, which is an area code close to my home so it gives the impression it is a local number. Most are some sort of autodialer and then when I answer, no one talks. Today I received a call from this number and the individual ( XXXX ) said he was from Unifin, Inc. XXXX said he wanted me to pay a debt against an account that I do not know anything about. My name is the same as my son 's name, and consequently my son " may '' owe the debt buy I do n't know for certain. I told XXXX at Unifin that I was not responsible for the debt, that my son and I share the same name, and asked him to give me his company name and mailing address so I could dispute the debt. XXXX said I should either arrange to pay the debt myself or put pressure on my son to pay his debt. When I asked XXXX again for the details on their company and the nature of the supposed debt so I could dispute it, he got obnoxious on the phone and then hung up before providing the information I would need in order to send a request to dispute the debt. After XXXX at Unifin hung up on me, I called the XXXX number back to get more details. However, the person who answered was now XXXX at a company he said was XXXX or XXXX ( or something that sounded similar to that ). Without even giving him my name, he said he needed to talk to me about a debt I owed, giving me the impression that my phone number must have been loaded in their automated phone and records keeping system. I explained to XXXX at XXXX ( sp? ) that I was not the person they were looking for and requested that my name be removed from their records as having any association with the debt case. I also asked XXXX for contact information on his company, including how to spell their name and their mailing address so I could dispute any potential debt. At that point XXXX hung up on me without providing the requested information.

This company was contracted by XXXX XXXX to collect on a debt originally owned by XXXX XXXX XXXX. Unifin & I came to a settlement amount of {$2600.00}. This was in XXXX of 2020. On XX/XX/XXXX I obtained a Cashiers check in that amount. It was then mailed to Unifin and delivered on XX/XX/XXXX and deposited on XX/XX/XXXX. It officially cleared the account on XX/XX/XXXX. The first week of XXXX, a call was made to Unifin to get an update as I had not received a receipt nor anything stating this was now settled. They claimed the check bounced and that they shredded the check. How did they shred the check? Even if a cashier check could bounce, how did they get the check back from the bank to allegedly shred it? Cashier checks are prepaid instruments, and unlike a personal check, they do not bounce. Unifin then claimed that they shredded the check. I was baffled by this because if this was sincerely true, they would have called or sent a letter. They had no hesitation in calling or sending a letter when attempting to previously collect a debt. They then told me that since the money never left my account, I should go ahead and just pay with my debit card. After arguing with them for some time and telling them that cashiers checks do NOT bounce, they said they'd investigate and give me a call back. When they called back, they told me they were still investigating. In the mean time I called my bank ( XXXX XXXX ) who told me an attempt had been made on the cashiers check as an ACH debit which resulted in it being declined. My bank then told me the check cleared the account on XX/XX/XXXX and provided me with a written letter and proof. Yet Unifin denies this despite the check being clearly stamped " Unifin for deposit only '' ( which XXXX provided me with a company ). To this date, I hace not heard from Unifin. Since all calls are recorded, I encourage you to pull the tapes.

I am an XXXX XXXX military member who has recently returned from living overseas for 4 years. As part of my new job and heightened security clearance, I had to submit to a credit review process. During this process, I learned that I supposedly owed approximately {$300.00} to XXXX XXXX. On XXXX I spoke with XXXX XXXX of Unifin IncXXXX She informed me that the charge was initially a XXXX XXXX bill that went into collection. I am adamant that I paid all charges to XXXX prior to departing overseas. It would not, however, surprise me if I was subjected to a predatory account cancellation charge ( this has happened to me twice previously with cell phone companies despite doing everything within my power to ensure that the account was closed properly prior to departing and informing them of the military clause for cancelling accounts ). I asked for an itemized list of charges and was told that these would be emailed. I left 2 voicemails for XXXX on XXXX and XXXX. On XXXX I called back and spoke to XXXX ( ext XXXX ). I was told that my request for an itemized list of charges was under " Manager Review '' at XXXX XXXX. I was told that there was no standard for review and to expect " a few weeks or a month '' for return notice. When I asked if there was a specific standard I was told that " this information is not important. '' I have since not been successful at having anyone at XXXX, XXXX, or any other third party collection agency describe to me the nature of my alleged debt. I feel I have no recourse ( other than paying a debt I don't believe is mine ) than to request your assistance. The claim number for this is # XXXX and the contact # I have for the company is XXXX. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

On XX/XX/2019 I received a phone call from XXXX, thinking it was family, I called the number back to find out it was a debt collector trying to get paid for a 14 year old debt obtained through identity theft. I got very upset most of all, because they gave out the last 4 digits of my social security number before they knew who I was and I went off the deep end. I questioned them of how they got my social security number and why they had given it out and I did not let him get a word in edge wise because I was mad, and yes I said some bad work. I also told them that I better not find it on my credit report as a new account owed, I have one on there that did this and it is still on my credit report, and then I hung up on them. I did call them back to get the company name, because I don't remember them giving it to me. A women answered the phone this time and said her name was XXXX and I asked her to spell it and she asked if I had just called and I said yes and I want the address to the company, she kept asking questions while I was asking for the address and she would not give it to me and told me to answer her questions and I kept asking for the address and she said that it was being recorded and I told her good and told her the same thing I told the first person. She hung up on me. They should not be giving out any part of someones social security number at all. I am going through a problem with identity theft right now, and them giving this information out is not good, a lot of companies ask for the last digits of your ss #, but they don't give it to you.

In tiny fine print it says if you pay the debt they can then reinstate it and sue you! For a debt that isn't in VALID or LEGALLY BINDING! If you look closer you will see THEY CAN NOT SUE YOU, they can not even REPORT on this debt- why? because it is INVALID, deleted, removed or doesn't even exist. Legally they can not sue you or reinstate a deleted debt that you do not owe. DO NOT BE FOOLED by this COMPANY 's -- - GROSS MISUSE, MISREPRESENTATION and HARASSMENT. I was attempting to speak to supervisors about their company using XXXX XXXX XXXX contact information resulting in them calling my phone number of XXXX looking for XXXX XXXX. I wanted to know if their corrections of incorrect data only stay internally or is reported to the credit bureaus or updated to the debt asset when sold on to other collectors. I was unable to get to that line of question as the very basic questions would not get answered. I spoke with XXXX supervisors on Wed XX/XX/XXXX The first was a female who refused to identify herself or the company name. She cited a security policy and refused to answer the questions multiple times until she terminated the call. I then spoke with a man who said the first supervisor was wrong and should have identified the company. He said their name with a thick accent and refused to spell the name of the company citing a security policy. He refused to provide his name or the mailing address for the company. He did identify the company was incorporated in Illinois as asked. When I repeatedly asked him to spell the company name and provide a mailing address he refused until he terminated the call. They have blocked my number from calling them at XXXX or XXXX XXXX as listed on their website so I can not ask a third supervisor. Refusal to identify the company is a clear violation of the FDCPA and these nefarious and purposely misleading practices are deceitful and motivated by mitigating the ability for people to hold them accountable by making identifying them to government agencies difficult.

On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX EST, I received a call from a company called Unifan ( sp ) claiming they called on behalf of XXXX XXXX in regards to a debt that they obtained from XXXX XXXX XXXX. I informed the gentlemen that I had not received any communication from either his company nor XXXX XXXX and that I was formally requesting information regarding this alleged debt from them. I had not received any communication from either company prior to that date and I requested validation of the account via the phone. The guy refused to provide me with information regarding this debt via the mail and kept saying, " we will email you '' and " this is already in collection '' and " we don't use mail ''. I have a legal right to request communication regarding alleged debts to be mailed to me via the United States Postal Services, and this company refused my right to this request. When I informed him that I was recording the call ( Georiga is a one-party consent state where I can give consent to record a call without prior notice ) he hung up on me. This is a direct violation of my right to request information in writing from a debt collector on an alleged debt. XXXX XXXX is now reporting this debt on my credit report, and the company they hired to collect this debt violated my rights. This account must be removed due to a violation of my consumer protection rights. I have an audio recording of this phone call, as does Unifin since they record all calls, so there is audio proof of this company 's refusal to honor my rights as a consumer.

This morning around XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, I was called by a debt collector from 'Unifin Inc. ' attempting to collect over {$900.00} in medical debt from XXXX for a XXXX I received in XXXX. I have received several calls from this phone number over the last two months, but every time I would answer the caller would hang up. This is the first time there has been a person on the other end. The woman on the phone told me how much I owed, and sent an email with the website XXXX in the signature on my request. When I told her I was pretty sure I had already paid the debt, she gave an insufficient explanation of the source of the debt. I told her I had checked my credit report a year earlier and had zero items in collection, but she had no sufficient answer for that either. I asked for her to send official documents in the mail, and she said she had sent them. She then told me I could make a deal to settle today for {$650.00}. I informed her I would need to double check with a credit agency to make sure the collection item was legitimate, and I could call back another time. She preceded to adopt a harshly critical tone, informing me that the debt may not be with them any longer after today, and they would pursue any means available to collect the money, and promptly hung up on me. When I checked my XXXX credit report this afternoon, there are still zero items in collection on my account. I am fairly certain this is a paid debt. Unifin 's tactics, obtuseness, and opaque process are all very concerning.

I received a letter from a debt collector, UNIFIN. I tried 3 separate times to solve a debt with them. I spoke to the 1st agent and gave them the reference # XXXX, I could not afford the payment options they offered, but the letter did state that if I contacted them they would try to work with me. I was offered to settle the debt for XXXX for {$1000.00}. Which I could afford, instead of the {$1400.00}. They took that money and applied it to another debt that I was not even aware of and does not appear on my credit report. I feel that this is fraud. I was promised a email receipt and never received one. My payment was on XX/XX/2020. I called on XXXX XXXX to complain that nothing had been reported to the credit bureaus yet and found out from another agent that there was not payment made for that account. It had been applied to a credit card account. I was shocked. I asked to have this money applied to the original debt as arranged, but I was refused. I asked for a manager. I spoke to a person by the name of XXXX and was told that they could give me a refund of the money and that was all. I was to receive it within 3-5 business days. It never came. I contacted them again on XX/XX/2020. Again I was told the same thing I would have to wait 3-5 days for a refund and I was given another apology. I do not trust this company to come through with their promise of a refund. I really need your help. All I wanted to do was settle a debt. Now I am out my money and still have a bad mark on my credit.

Dear XXXX XXXX XXXX : I am responding to your contact about a debt you are trying to collect. You contacted me by mail, on XX/XX/2022 and identified this alleged debt. Please supply the information below so that I have all information : The name and address of the creditor to whom the debt is currently owed, the account number used by that creditor, and the amount owed. If this debt started with a different creditor, provide the name and address of the original creditor, the account number used by that creditor, and the amount owed to that creditor at the time it was transferred. When you identify the original creditor, please provide any other name by which I might know them, if that is different from the official name. In addition, tell me when the current creditor obtained the debt and who the current creditor obtained it from. Provide verification and documentation that there is a valid basis for claiming that I must pay the debt to the current creditor. For example, can you provide a copy of the written agreement that created my original requirement to pay? If you are asking that I pay a debt that somebody else is or was required to pay, identify that person. Provide verification and documentation about why this is a debt that I must pay. The amount and age of the debt, including : A copy of the last billing statement sent to me by the original creditor. State the amount of the debt when you obtained it, and when that was.

My boyfriend recieved a call from the phone number listed asking for me. I called this phone number back twice and couldn't find out what they were actually calling about. They knew the last 4 digits of my social security number and my current address and kept asking me to verify if this was my information. I have no idea who this company is and they are not a creditor on my credit report. They never stated they were a debt collector and just kept asking me to verify my information before they would tell me what the call was regarding. This company made no attempt to identify themselves and were asking me to verify my information that they have on file, which they read to me first. I didn't provide it to them. They also asked my boyfriend to verify my SSN when he first spoke to them. I refused to verify the information becuase they wouldn't tell me what the call was regarding and they hung up when I pressed them on it. They never identified who they were each time I called and I repeatidly ask to get the name of the company. After getting angry they finally said the company name is Unifin but that was it, no other information was provided. I had to verify online that Unifin , Inc. is actually a debt collector. I believe this to be a scam as I do not owe this company any money. It is very concering that they have the last 4 digits of my SSN and my current address and would like to know what I can do abou this.

To Whom it May Concern : This problem began 5-6 years ago, when XXXX had a promotion where they would pay any cancellation fees to our current carrier if we were to switch to them. Having multiple lines at the time, we knew this was a good deal, as it would lower our monthly phone bill significantly. After going through the long process of moving all of our lines to XXXX, we were instructed to go down the hall to XXXX XXXX this was in a mall ) and just start the cancellation process and that afterwards any fees would be " taken care of ''. It all sounded straight up, and I still don't feel that XXXX was being dishonest or misleading. What we believe happened was that XXXX didn't like the marketing strategy and started some maneuvers to fight back, leaving we, the consumers, holding the bag, while two giants duked it out with all their legal mumbo jumbo that we couldn't keep up with. We also ended up in a mess right at this time when my husband lost his job- we were simply fighting to stay afloat. No time or resources to address this phone issue. We have given a very condensed version of events but hope this gives a good picture of what is going on. We initially talked to XXXX, who gave a small payout for compensation, which we don't remember what happened with it. XXXX was even less willing to work with us. Regardless, we believe that this is a debt we do not owe.

I received a collection notice from Unifin , Inc. dated XX/XX/XXXX. According to the notice I owed {$11000.00} to XXXX XXXX XXXX for a credit card with XXXX. The debt was from XX/XX/XXXX and the balance owed to XXXX at that time was {$8000.00}. Between XX/XX/XXXX and the date of the letter I was charged {$4900.00} in interest. On XX/XX/XXXX I replied to their letter " this is not my debt ''. On XX/XX/XXXX I received 2 letters from XXXX XXXX Services. Both letters were dated XX/XX/XXXX and both referenced the same collection with XXXXXXXX XXXX and XXXX. The first letter was letting me know they had received a recent inquiry from XXXX XXXX regarding the XXXX account. The second letter was a copy of the account summary they provided. According to the Account Summary the account was opened XX/XX/XXXX, and was charged off on XX/XX/XXXX for {$8000.00}. To the best of my knowledge I have never had a credit card with XXXX. So naturally I am very concerned that someone opened an account under my name. But why is this the first time I'm hearing about it? No one has ever contacted me before. And why are they trying to collect on a debt that was charged off 18 years ago? Their letter even states " the law limits how long you can be sued for a debt and because of the age of the debt they will not sue me or report it to any credit agency. '' I don't know what to do.

I was contacted by Unifin to collect a debt for a payday loan. I advised that I could not pay the debt at the moment but intended on paying it. I was told that they would proceed with legal action because they had the information they needed to do so. I was told that as soon as I pay it, I would be able to borrow again. I was also told that if I had a negative reporting, they would delete it. The first date did n't work for me. I called back today XXXX XXXX, 2016, to clarify what I had been advised. XXXX offered me another settlement. When I asked how soon I could borrow, I was transferred to her manager. He advised that as soon as I settled, I could borrow. I paid the amount and was told that I would receive the settlement offer & receipt in an email. I did n't receive anything. Borrowing quickly was important to me because I had to take my daughter out of town to a specialist the following day. So, I paid the amount. When I went in to borrow, I was told that I could n't. When I called Unifin back, I was then told by XXXX, it would take XXXX 60 days. This was misleading and deceptive. I asked if all of their calls were recorded. She said they were. I spoke with them a total of 4 times in 2 weeks. I encourage them and other governing agencies to listen to those calls. I am probably not the only victim of their unfair and deceptive collections practices.

The primary statute in Illinois requiring licensing in the area of debt collection is the Illinois Collection Agency Act. ( 225 ILCS 425 et seq ). Under the Act, anyone acting as a collection agency must obtain a collection agency license. An entity is considered to be acting as a collection agency when, among other things, it engages in the collection of debts for others or buys accounts, bills or other indebtedness and engages in collecting the same ( 225 ILCS 425/3 ). Debt collection is defined as any act or practice in connection with only consumer debts 225 ILCS 425/2 ). Even out-of-state debt buyers must be licensed, if they buy and sue on consumer accounts in Illinois ( LVNV Funding , LLC v. Trice, 952 NE2d 1232 ( 2011 ) ). To obtain the collection agency license, a {$750.00} fee must accompany the application, along with a bond for {$25000.00}. The applicant must also provide an employment history, financial statement, employee identity listing and trust account financial report. Please provide the following : you signed the application the entity suing you purchased the right to collect on the debt the balance claimed as being due is calculated properly the loan has not been rendered unenforceable due to the expiration of the statute of limitations

I received a letter from XXXX XXXX stating that I owed {$600.00} and when I checked my credit report they had reported an unpaid account for that amount. I contacted XXXX, they told me to contact unifin which I did. The representative at unifin told me I needed to do my own research and pay my bills if I had a problem with something on my credit report. They would not give me any info about the debt. XXXX finally told me it was XXXX credit. So I contacted XXXX. They told me to contact XXXX XXXX XXXX did not provide any info. I never opened or authorized a XXXX credit account and still have no idea what the charge is for. These four companies are holding my credit hostage unless I pay {$600.00} that I have no knowledge of ever incurring. Please help me understand how the XXXX credit account was ever opened without my knowledge and why cant anyone tell me anything about it. Why did I first learn of the debt after it was reported to the credit bureaus? When I requested in writing that XXXX send me debt verification, they sent me back a form letter stating that they needed more info from me. My request included the XXXX reference number, unifin reference number, synchrony account number as well as my name address and social. How can they do this to people?

On XX/XX/XXXX I received 7 consecutive missed calls from XXXX. They did not leave a voicemail. Today XX/XX/XXXX I received 7 additional calls without any voicemails. I called the number back inquiring about what the issue was as I was feeling harassed. They informed me they were sorry for not leaving a voicemail and stated they were from Unifin. I disconnected the call before gathering anymore information in fear my identity may have been compromised. I looked up the business and noticed they were indeed a collections agency. So I called back and verified my identity by confirming my name so I could get more information on only the business itself, not the collection matter. XXXX answered and I told him I wanted more information because I wanted to report this to the CFPB as I was feeling harassed. He said " thats fine, you can do whatever you want '' and hung up the phone. I called back and another lady answered. I again confirmed my name and last 4 of social and said I wanted to speak with a supervisor. She continued to talk about the attempt to collect a debt to which I stated numerous time I wanted to speak with a supervisor. Finally she said ok and I was on hold for more than 5 minutes. I hung up as I felt this was going no where.

Recieved a phone call from a XXXX area code claiming to be attempting to collect a debt for a XXXX XXXX account. When I asked how a company that no longer exists was trying to collect a debt they said that XXXX XXXX had taken over their accounts. Despite an uneasy feeling I set up a payment plan to settle the debt and was told I would receive an email confirmation of the plan. After not receiving the email and reaching out to XXXX XXXX I deemed the company to be illegitimate and cancelled my card. On the date of the first scheduled payment I received a follow-up call from another XXXX area code. After explaining the issues I had with the way they had done business thus far I told them I wouldn't set up another payment plan until I had received an email from their company as I had been promised. Once I received the email I found out that they are not located in XXXX. In fact, Unifin Inc. only has a XXXX XXXX in XXXX listed as an address. Seeing this I looked up who acquired XXXX XXXX and found out that they were purchased by XXXX/XXXX. I called XXXX XXXX and asked if they could find any record of me and they couldn't and told me they have their own debt collectors and the number I was called from has no association with them.

I was called from the number XXXX and the person I spoke to informed me they were calling regarding an unpaid hospital bill from 3yrs ago. I asked for more information and the collector started yelling at me asking if I was going to pay or not. I was simply trying to understand because this bill was supposed to be taken care of by workers comp and my insurance. So I was very confused. I had not been receiving any notices or bills in the mail regarding this debt. I asked to speak to someone else because he wasnt listening or offering any additional info or clarification about the debt. He then yelled at me I was just going to waste their time and he was noting in my account I was refusing to pay and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a woman and told her what happened and she then hung up on me. I called back a 3rd time and spoke to a man named XXXX and he explained everything thoroughly and we were able to get to the bottom of it. He pulled the recording for his manager to hear and I hope that they will actually take action against that individual and it wasnt an act. I feel like it was a bait and switch / good cop / bad cop kind of situation & very manipulative. These should not be standard or normal practices.

Called to collect on a debt from 2006 that I have no remembrence on for a credit card from XXXX XXXX XXXX Bank which according to the internet is no longer in business. Offered to do a XXXX settlement if I paid today for {$500.00} odd dollards instead of over {$1500.00}. When I asked for validation documents they said they would send and then hung up on me. I called them back to get the name of the company calling, etc - it sounded something like XXXX or Unifen- and the representative refused to spell the name when I asked for clarification. They asked me to confirm the last XXXX digits of my social which they had and I refused. When I kept pressing and calling back, representatives would hang up on me or put me on hold and never come back on the line. They could tell who I was by my phone number on their caller ID so they also had that on file as well as my birth date. The number they called from was XXXX and said it was case XXXX. I have been getting at least one call a week for the last year from companies trying to collect on debts that are no longer valid. I am constantly monitoring my credit report and this particular company indicated they would remove this debt from my credit report but it does not show.

Received a call from XXXX. When I answered there was no one on the phone and after several seconds the caller hung up. When I called back a man answered and did not say the name of the company or that he had called me in an attempt to collect a debt. He told me he was calling about a payday loan I had taken out with XXXX XXXX Loans in XX/XX/XXXX. He said he wanted to know what I was going to do about it. He never told me the name of the company that he was calling from but told me that he has tried to contact me several times which is false. I have had the same phone number for over 10 years. I told him that it is now XX/XX/XXXX and in the state of Arizona payday loans are illegal and he should not be contacting me regarding a debt over 7 years old. Once I said the word illegal he seemed flustered and said that he had to terminate the call. Then he hung up. In the past I have taken out payday loans but I do not remember taking one with XXXX and I do not recall how much the loan was for. The man I spoke with said my account number ended in XXXX digits and when he said the XXXX digits they were the last XXXX of my ssn. Now I am worried that I may have a identity theft issue

Hello, Received letter in the mail from a debt collection agency, UNIFIN, based in XXXX, IL. I called the number twice and spoke with an agent but did not get her name. When called back after contacting what I thought was the original debt who could not find me in their system I called the debt collector back. The agent XXXX who was a woman verified me by my name and last four of SS #. I then proceeded to tell her that this was not my debt and asked for information on who the original debt belonged to. On the letter the original debt is XXXX, when speaking to the agent she stated the acronym stands for XXXX XXXX XXXX Bank based in XXXX IL. She provided me with a number so that I could inquire about myself. The number is given to me by agent XXXX. I called the number once on my own and called again after speaking with the agent. I spoke to the same individual who confirmed they were not XXXX XXXX XXXX Bank XXXX, but XXXX XXXX XXXX Bank based in XXXX PA. This is clearly fraudulent and wanted to alert you to this scam!! When asking the agent where was the call center was located that I was calling she refused to provide me with that information.

Called my wifes phone, misled her that it was for a job. I called back and phone callers repeatedly did not identify the company they were calling for. Insisted that I confirm my ssn prior to properly identifying who they were and why they were calling. Multiple calls with a different person each time, until I spoke with XXXX who said they were with Unifin and that they were trying to collect on a debt. They said this was for a XXXX account for {$100.00} and pressured me to pay prior to posting it to the credit bureaus. I asked for written documentation as I dispute the debit. They were asked to provide proof of debit ownership, proof of the original debit and who it was for ( company that it was used for ). This was requested to be delivered via mail. They then threatened to report it to credit bureaus. I said, I have only ever had one XXXX account, and I just got a refund from it exceeding this. I believe this debit is false and will continue to believe that until they provide documentation for the debit. The call was abruptly ended when I declined to pay the debit over the phone for the fourth time.

I received a letter from debt collector, Unifin. I called Unifin because I am in complete disagreement that I owe any debt. Unifin told me that they had no information regarding the debt other than they were directed to collect the debt. The debt description was " XXXX '' on the letter, I called XXXX to research and understand the debt. XXXX went through their records and found that I have NEVER owed any money to XXXX, there has never been any debt owed from me to XXXX. So I called XXXX XXXX who claimed to have purchased the debt from XXXX and then redirected the debt to Unifin. XXXX XXXX was adamant that I owed them the debt and that regardless what XXXX said, my debt had been sold to XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX claims they sent me a letter in XX/XX/2021 to collect the debt and I never responded. So now in XX/XX/2021 I received a letter from Unifin to collect the debt. I immediately reached out to Unifin to understand what the debt was all about. I completely disagree with this debt and collection - I have no credit with XXXX, never have. I believe XXXX XXXX is acting fraudulently claiming I owe debt that I do not.

A family/relative received a letter from this collection agency ( UNIFIN INC ) to their address XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX TX XXXX. Due to my relatives name is the same as mine XXXX XXXX. They opened the letter to find out about a debt back in XX/XX/XXXX. My relative not knowing of any debt with this company then thought of reaching out to me to inquiry about this. As I tried to figure out also, I was able to access more account information via their website and by entering my SSN I found out this was my debt. When I tried to review I see this company has my current address XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX TX XXXX. I am not sure why they have not contacted me about this. This is totally against privacy of my debt. This address I have not lived in since back in XXXX. I want this address ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX TX XXXX ) removed from their system and a complain to them on why they sent a unauthorized letter to someone else other than me. If they need to reach out to me about this debt. Then they need to use my current address and per their system that is the only one available to reach me and discuss about this.

I was called XX/XX/ at XXXX CT from ( XXXX ) XXXX by a women who said she was calling as the State 's Attorney and asked me to verify my social. I asked her to repeat where she was calling from and she said that I needed to verify the information she was asking and that she would not be providing me with any information until then. I asked her again where she was calling from and did so 2 more times before I asked if she said she said she was calling from the State 's Attorney. She told me if I would not respond she was hanging up and she did. I attempted to call the number back at XXXX CT and was placed in a queue, but the line disconnected. I want to emphasize that I clearly heard her say she was calling from the State 's Attorney and I thought it was weird because she did not end it in " Office '', which is why I wanted her to repeat it. This is a clear misrepresentation of who she is and I only found this company by looking up their number on XXXX. It's illegal and fraudulent to falsify calling from a governmental agency.

I am furious that this company has continued to repeatedly attempt to contact me after i've sent them a cease and desist letter. Under the FDCPA 15 usc 1692c it is my right to cease all communication with a debt collector, and in that letter I also invoked my specified remedy that this company cease all communication with me and any other person regarding this debt through any medium ( which includes mail, phone, and credit reporting ). This company has violated my rights by continuing to send me letters stating that I owe something. This company has communicated with another company regarding my personal information after I did not give them consent to do so. And under law any medium is any direct or indirect communication. This company has also violated my rights under 15 usc 1692d by continuing to harass me after i told them to stop contacting me. This company has also failed to report to the 3 nationwide credit reporting agencies that they have sold my information to another company, especially without my consent.

I have received calls from Unifin from the numbers XXXX ( XX/XX/2023 XXXX ), XXXX ( XX/XX/2023 XXXX ) and XXXX ( XX/XX/2023 XXXX ). Every time they call they immediately ask for my name and my social security number before giving me any information at all ( including where theyre calling from or that theyre a debt collector ). When I tell them my name is correct they give me the company name but still refuse to state why theyre calling or what the business Unifin is until I verify my identity. I have received zero written notification from this company, I do not know what debt they assume I owe them, and they will not give me any information unless I give them confidential personal information. This is illegal and they have been informed of such. They were also informed that if theyre a debt collection agency they can contact my bankruptcy attorney at which point they say they will discuss all further information when my identity is confirmed. At this point I always hang up.

This company repeated calls me various times a day never leave a voicemail and when I call back they won't disclose who they are to me. They immediately ask for my information and then they sent me 2 different people personal information in the matter of minutes via email. When I called to inform them they said stop the scheme I'm trying to commit because they cant5help me amd that they will always report to my credit report as negative. I informed them that thats bad practice then they transferred me to a " manager '' the manager dismmissed what I said about the othwr associates I spoke to amd dissmissed what I said about the company sending me other people information that wasn't mine. The manager only concern was to receive a payment from me. I informed the manager that I did not feel comfortable because how the associates spoke to me and the fact that I now have their other customers information that they sent me. The manager then said oh well and hung up.

On XX/XX/2022 I received a letter in the mail from Unifin, Inc about an apparent past due account of mine they had acquired and provided payment options in the letter along with debt validation request instructions. I did not recognize this debt. On XX/XX/2022 I mailed a debt validation request letter to Unifin , Inc. It is now XX/XX/2022 and I have not received any sort of response from Unifin , Inc in regards to the validity of this debt. This leads me to believe that this debt can not be validated and is therefore an attempt to collect a non-verifiable debt and therefore an invalid debt. On XX/XX/2022 I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, after no initiation of contact on my behalf, about a referenced debt account being closed in their system, with no details on the validity of the debt. The account number referenced was the same account number listed on the Unifin , Inc initial letter. I have still not heard anything from Unifin, Inc

The person on the phone said they would remove me from contact. On XX/XX/2021 I received a 'Second Notice ' from Unifin about this same debt ( attached Unifin 2.eml ). I sent a reply ( attached Re Unifin XXXX ) to the email address listed at the bottom of their email : XXXX I received no response. On XX/XX/2021 I received another 'Second Notice ' email from Unifin ( attached Unifin XXXX ). I have tried to stop this harassment by contacting them via phone and via email but they refuse to stop harassing me about a debt they know is not mine. This company contacted me asking me to verify my information without telling me who they were or what the call was about. They continue to try to get me to say yes, or affirm my information in a very threatening manner. I would not verify because I felt it was a scam. They disconnected the call. I called the number back, asking them why they were calling me and then they gave me my wifes information instead of mine, saying they were not looking for me. They were actually looking for my wife. I told them that I was recording them the same way they were recording me and they hung up on me. I spoke with the supervisor XXXX during the call when I called back after he hung up, I called them back again and another gentleman by the name of XXXX answered the phone and said that it was my debt but he did not have the correct Social Security number. I asked them to remove my name from Their system and delete any information they have about me.

I was contacted by one collection company around a year ago this time staying that I owed about XXXX $ to XXXX for an account I closed out a few years ago. I was able to talk to XXXX and obtain a letter stating the debt was closed and was an error on their part. It was settled and I provided proof to the company directly from XXXX. The debt was cleared from my Credit Report with a note and also from XXXX XXXX. Unifin contacted me a year after the original dispute alleging the same debt was still owed. I explain the situation and told them it has already been resolved. The people I talked to were beyond rude and almost mean. I have provided proof to them but I am worried about what information they have. They have had multiple complaints and even have been known to threaten people. I want this issue put to bed and their shady business penalized. I am happy to provide any additional information needed.

This company calls me every day. They're normal tactic is simply to hang up after I answer the phone, but occasionally they ask me to verify very personal information : last 4 of my SS #, date of birth, and others. They refuse to identify themselves or provide any information about their company unless you verify this personal info. They have even begun calling my wife 's mobile phone number. I have asked them on numerous occasions to stop calling me. Usually at that point, they hang up on me, but they have in the past agreed to stop calling me. They have not stopped calling me. Today, ( XX/XX/2018 ) I called them back ( after they hung up on me ), and I was assured by a " XXXX '' that they would not call me again. She would not provide her last name or her date of birth or the last 4 digits of her SS # for some reason. XXXX told me the name of her company was Unifin , Inc.

Re : Unifin/XXXX XXXX I received a letter trying to collect a debt way past the statute of limitations in both New York State and Federal law. 1. Their letter, attached, has a default date of XX/XX/XXXX. 2. The letter indicates a judgement has been entered in an unspecified court on XX/XX/XXXX. 3. I think the original debt was a payday loan. 4. I was never served with legal papers of any kind or notified a judgement was entered in this ( unspecified ) court. 5. I sent them what follows by email : " You are in violation of both New York State and Federal law. The statue of limitations has long since expired and I have filed a complaint with the CFPB. DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN. '' XXXX XXXX has consistently filed these reports on my credit reports from all 3 bureaus even though they are way past the original default date. Instead, they use the date they bought the debt.

Original text from the earlier complaint, " They have blocked my number from calling them at XXXX or XXXX XXXX as listed on their website so I can not ask a third supervisor. '' Original text from their response, " Further, Unifin has not blocked XXXX XXXX phone number from calling Unifin. Please contact us with any additional questions or concerns. I received a phone call from this company, Unifin , Inc. back in XX/XX/2022. They stated they were a debt collection company. I asked for what debt? They couldn't tell me without asking for my personal information. I provided the basic info, enough for them to tell me who they were. I had never heard of them or the alleged debt that I allegedly owe. They claimed that I owe them, {$1600.00}. I asked them if they have a signed contract or promissory note from me stating I owe them, They said that it isn't required and that I owe them the money. I stated that if they do not have a piece of paper with my signature on it stating that I owe them, then I do not. I then proceeded to hang up. They then in turn have called me daily at minimum 6 times a day, never leaving a voicemail. I have no knowledge of this alleged debt and they will not stop harassing me.

On XX/XX/2021, I spoke to male, believe his name was XXXX. Stating he was attempting to collect a debt for XXXX. He offered a settlement amount, I advised him I am not familiar with the his company, or the company he claimed to be the original lender. I asked him to send me validation of debt. He informed me a settlement offer was already sent to me. I advised him I have never received mail correspondence from his company and asked him to provide me, by mail, validation of debt. He said he will just tell me by phone to refresh my memory and said, " What's the point of sending your validation of debt if you aren't going to pay when offered a settlement. I asked him if he was refusing to provide the validation he said, you aren't going to pay it anyway. He ended the conversation with " yeah right '' and hung up.

On XX/XX/20 at XXXX p.m. I was called by someone asking for a XXXX XXXX. I told them that this was not that parties number. The person advised me the call was being recorded. She said she would not remove my number unless I confirmed or denied if I was XXXX XXXX. I asked if they were a debt collector and they would not tell me. I have never co-signed or otherwise had any debt with a XXXX XXXX. The fact she refused to remove my number is illegal in it's own right. So at XXXX I called back and spoke with a XXXX. I asked him who he worked for and he said Unifin. Unifin is a debt collector and this is another clear violation. They were using a spoofed number of XXXX, however once he gave me the name of his company I figured the rest out. I did record the call as well, but can't attach it for some reason.

Collections Agency Unifin XXXX InXXXX on behalf of XXXX XXXX XXXX is attempting to unlawfully collect on a debt. The Reference number is XXXX. The debt in question was discharged in Bankruptcy XXXX case # XXXX which was discharged on XX/XX/XXXX in the state of TX XXXX A letter sent to my home address dated XX/XX/XXXX states that there is money owed and pending legal action was implied by referencing a Judgment that has been entered against me. This statement is false and misleading which is in violation of the FDCPA as there is no debt owed and there is no judgment outstanding for this debt. It is also my understanding that debt collectors are not able to sue on time-barred or out of statute debts. They didn't call back so I made a call to them on XX/XX/19 in regards to this debt. A gentleman answered the phone and verified my information. He asked about settling the payment for XXXX. I told him I was unable to do that because I am a single mother of the children. Based on my finances I could make a {$500.00} payment to satisfy the account. I wasn't able to make payments due to my financial hardship. He was pressing to set up a payment plan which I told him several times I was unable to do. Then he got upset and told me that if I was unable to do this then he will write that I am refusing to settle the debt and they will garnish my wages then hung up on me.

Became totally XXXX, lost my home and all income sources. I explained this to credit card companies, that I no longer have the means to pay the debt. Most said they would charge off account. Now between 20 & 25 yrs. later, I'm threatened with judgement & severely damaged credit rating, as of yesterday, from XXXX to XXXX, excellent too poor now. The original debt was $ 5K on the card, Now they want $ 12K. I explained to all debt collection agencies, I no longer have the financial means to pay the debt owed. The financial, physical & mental hardships have been insurmountable & only becoming worse as I age. I never asked to be here in this situation, but still being abused for something I never wanted or asked for. I want a counter claim for damages for abuse of the XXXX & elderly.

Further my attorney XXXX XXXX attempted to contact them to inquire on the validity of the debt and they declined and refused to provide a mailing address or verification of the debt. They continue to call and I am filing this complaint along with retaining XXXX XXXX to sue for damages again. Ive completely complied with the FCRA and asked for verification, yet the company refuses and continues to harass me.

On XX/XX/2020 I recieved a letter from Unifin, Inc. indicating I had a past due account. They are attempting to collect a debt that the statuate of limitations has expired. They have represented in a deceptive way that the debt is still owed. They have placed the notice that the statuate of limitations has expired on the debt on the back of the first page of their letter. They further have placed the print indicating that there is a second page in an area that makes it easy to not notice it. This is very obviously an attempt to comply with the law while attempting to conceal important legal information from consumers.
