In XXXX, I enrolled for a XXXX XXXX class at XXXX University to advance my career. My employer at the time had agreed to pay for this course but along the line, before the commencement of the classes, they decided that the class did not align with the company 's need at the time. Unfortunately for my family, at this same time, my sister was going through a rough divorce decided to move in with me to escape domestic violence. In order to ensure she wasn't relying on government handouts/assistance, I had to realign my personal costs and needs to accommodate my sister and her newly born child. My experience from attending Ohio XXXX University is that one has to pay for their classes by the first week of class otherwise such person will be automatically dropped from the course. I thought the same applicable to this University. At least so I thought, I believed everything was fine until I received an email from an advisor stating the professor of the course noticed I had not been in class for the first 3 weeks. I sent a reply to the advisor informing her that I could no longer attend the class because I could not afford the cost. The advisor then told me to withdrawal from the class and send an appeal application to the office of registrar for tuition reimbursement. I honestly wondered why I needed to appeal for tuition refund for a course I never attended nor paid for. But because the advisor said it was the process with them, I had to follow it and do it. I submitted my Withdrawal reimbursement application to XXXX University and never received a response from them. I called several times and sent email but did not receive a response about my appeal. One year later, I received a letter from a debt collector called XXXX XXXX stating I owe XXXX University a sum of about {$2000.00}. I sent all my evidence and communications with XXXX University to XXXX XXXX and they stopped contacting me. Now two year later, I received a letter from another collector Todd, Bremer & Lawson , Inc dated XX/XX/XXXX that I owe a total amount of {$4000.00} to XXXX University Tuition & Fee. I believe XXXX University is trying to extort me and I can not allow that to happen. I never attended any class and do not owe any amount to XXXX University. They are trying to switch collectors in an attempt to scare me into paying what I do not owe to them. The university registrar has never responded to any appeal or emails for the last 3 years. This claim with Todd, Bremer & Lawson is under the Account XXXX XXXX. The letter states to notify Todd, Bremer & Lawson , Inc 's office within 30 days of receiving this notice in order to dispute this debt. I have written and sent a certified mail to Todd, Bremer & Lawson , Inc. informing them that I do not owe any of this amount.

Todd, Bremer & Lawson ( TBL ), a debt collection agency in XXXX XXXX, South Carolina, is being neglectful of consumer 's rights, has used deceptive means for collection and is being completely dishonest. TBL initially deceptively contacted me via phone using various non-searchable/ verifiable phone numbers. I answered a incoming call from a local phone number, not expecting a company from a different state. Agent began the process of attempting to collect an alleged debt. I requested debt validation and further information. Company failed to provide validation and continued to report the debt to the major credit bureaus. After 30 days, I filed a civil suit against TBL for FDCPA & FCRA violations. Company then fraudulently reported to the credit bureaus that the debt was paid off. This company denies reporting or attempting to collect. This company has an expired license and therefore they are attempting to collect without a valid license to do so in the state of Michigan. TBL claims to be hired by, and collecting on behalf of XXXX University ( XXXX ) in which XXXX is also responsible for TBLs collection practices. TBL claims to have received a promissory note from XXXX, alleging to be an agreement to a Federal Perkins Loan. I do not recall ever applying for, accepting or signing anything related to a Perkins Loan. This alleged loan was taken out in XXXX and I have never received any information regarding this account until a debt collection agency contacted me in XXXX. The promissory note had inaccurate information typed into the spaces ( such as current address, references, employment, etc ) alleging it to be my response and personal information. The promissory note then appears to have a hand written alleged signature on the document. These companies are attempting to collect twice the amount of an alleged debt that is not mine, it appears they have falsified documents and refuse to provide proper validation. I have also received attempts to collect this same alleged debt from other companies however, when asked for validation the debt is quickly sold or transferred to a new agency for collections. I have attempted to contact the alleged lender for this debt and the company no longer exists. Even through means of litigation, TBL is not being cooperative in trying to resolve this matter, they do not want to be held liable for their actions and they are not following the rules and regulations regarding collection practices or consumer rights.

I was contacted this morning at approximately XXXX XXXX. by an individual who identified himself as XXXX XXXX. He called my office and identified himself to my assistant as an attorney who was interested in talking to me about XXXX XXXX XXXX ( my XXXX XXXX ). My assistant transferred the call to me and when I asked him how I could help him he indicated to me that he was an attorney. I XXXX XXXX myself and thought I somehow knew him. He stated the language informing me that he was a debt collector and that he was collecting on a debt. He then proceeded to ask me about an incident that occurred at the University of XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) approximately two years after I no longer volunteered there as an XXXX volunteer with the XXXX XXXX XXXX for the local chapter of the XXXX. I indicated to him that I had no affiliation with the chapter and haven't been involved with them for several years and was not involved in the local chapter or the housing corporation in any way. He stated that I am somehow responsible for a debt. I told him to contact the XXXX XXXX with any questions or their lawyers and he said that he has already done that and that they are passing responsibility onto me. I then asked him for his contact information and informed him that I was reporting him to my XXXX XXXX and to the CFPB for improperly contacting me and he basically said go right ahead. My concern is that he contacted me at my place of employment and that he was very brazen in the way that he spoke to me which I felt was harassing in nature. As such, I would like to report him at this time since he misrepresented himself to my assistant by indicating to her that he was an Attorney and made it sound like he was affiliated with my XXXX XXXX and somehow was acquainted with me. I felt that his tactics were misleading and deceptive and very concerning and that they violated the Fair Debt Collection Act in the way that he conducted himself. His contact information is as follows : XXXX XXXX of Todd Bremer Lawson ( Debt Collection Agency ) with a phone number of XXXX based on the number that he gave me. However, when he called he was listed as a local number from XXXX, FL which was also misleading as he is based in South Carolina. Their physical address is XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, SC XXXX. Please investigate this matter to the fullest to protect others from this type of collection activity. Thanks! XXXX XXXX XXXX

In early 2019, I received a letter from a collection agency, Todd Bremer & Lawson, that was sent to me on behalf of the University XXXX XXXX at XXXX, regarding a XXXX XXXX that had defaulted. The letter I received from TBL stated I owed a principle amount of {$6300.00} for the original amount of the XXXX XXXX, and that TBL was also seeking over {$2000.00} in collection costs and other fees. In an effort to bring my student account balance in good standing, I submitted a total of {$8.00}, XXXX to TBL to satisfy the debt and associated collection fees. A few weeks after submitting the payment to TBL to satisfy the defaulted XXXX XXXX I had with XXXX, my financial institution determined TBL illegally accessed collection fees and charges that were not lawful, and that were not explicitly included in the original Borrower 's Agreement. I also asked TBL for proof that the XXXX XXXX funds had been deposited in my account because I was a victim of identify theft between the years XXXX. TBL could not provide substantiated documentation to prove I had actually received the XXXX XXXX Funds. As a result, my financial institution determined I was due {$3800.00} to be returned by TBL for failure to execute legal & reasonable collection practices and collection costs. As it stands today, TBL is now claiming I owe them an additional {$4100.00}, which includes {$960.00} for collection costs due to TBL. They are STILL trying to collect illegal collection fees that were not expressed in my borrower 's agreement. This is illegal and is NOT in accordance with FDCPA law : 808. Unfair practices - which state : A debt collector may not use unfair or unconscionable means to collect or attempt to collect any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section : ( 1 ) The collection of any amount ( including any interest, fee, charge, or expense incidental to the principal obligation ) unless such amount is expressly authorized by the agreement creating the debt or permitted by law.

I have XXXX data that shows the initial XXXX XXXX was disbursed XX/XX/XXXX, when I was in high school. It is impossible for me to owe this debt as I was not enrolled at XXXX until XXXX. I am being charged for a loan that I did not receive funding for ( see attached NSLDS info ) and was not eligible for due to me being under the legal age and still in XXXX, as a XXXX grader. The XXXX XXXX is only available to qualified, college enrollees, not high school students. In early XXXX, I received a letter from a collection agency, Todd Bremer & Lawson, that was sent to me on behalf of the XXXX XXXX XXXX at XXXX, regarding a XXXX XXXX that had defaulted. I also asked TBL for proof that the XXXX XXXX funds had been deposited in my account because I was a victim of identify theft between the years of XXXX. TBL could not provide substantiated documentation to prove I had actually received the XXXX Loans Funds in my bank account in XXXX. As a result, my financial institution determined I was due {$3900.00} to be refunded to me. I received the funds from the chargeback in XX/XX/XXXX. As it stands today, TBL is charging me {$4100.00}, which includes {$960.00} for collection costs due to TBL. Again, this loan was initially disbursed in XXXX, when I was not even enrolled at XXXX and I was underage, just XXXX years old, and did not agree to any sort of loan during this time.

In XXXX, I registered for an online course with The University XXXX XXXX XXXX but subsequently canceled my registration prior to the University 's deadline. I received written communication from the University acknowledging their receipt of my cancelation but they claim to have no record of it. I first received notices from the University requesting payment in XX/XX/XXXX and disputed the debt. I believe I received communication from XXXX debt collection agencies for the same account. Each time I received a notice, I would dispute the debt and each time I received no response for an extended period of time. I did not keep records of those communications, each time believing the issue had been resolved. Recently, I have been receiving letters from Todd, Bremer & Lawson , Inc., a debt collection agency, demanding payment. I have disputed the debt and twice provided them with documentation from the University proving that the debt they are attempting to collect is not valid. I have requested that they close the matter and provide me with a written statement that the matter has been resolved ( as they are at least the third entity with whom I have disputed the debt ). I believe they are violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and would like to file a complaint against both the University and their debt collection agent and request assistance in reaching a resolution to this matter. I am uploading copies of each communication I sent them ( sent to them by my wife via efax ), the attachments that I sent with each fax, and a copy of the last response I received from them asserting that the debt is valid and that they will consider any future disputes " frivolous ''. I do n't know what to do and would truly appreciate your help. Thank you.

The total of the classes I could not even attend at XXXX was only {$3200.00}, not {$4000.00}. I was driving back and forth from XXXX to XXXX every single day, five days a week or sleeping in my car when I had to because I could not afford an apartment in XXXX, but I really wanted to work hard to pursue my XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, after graduating with my XXXX from the XXXX. I missed the first class of my XXXX and was dropped from the course, without notice. I was then told to register for a different XXXX, but it would mean paying another {$250.00}, which I absolutely did not have at the time, and could not get in any way, shape or form within the 24-48 hrs that I was told I had to pay for it. Therefore, XXXX dropped me from ALL of my classes, without my permission, and I lost my entire student loan. The whole situation is completely unfair. If I had never been unwillingly dropped from my courses, I could possibleIy be half way towards finishing my XXXX XXXX XXXX right now, at least. Since I can not do anything about the unfair experience I had at XXXX, I am willing to get on a payment plan for the actual amount owed, but I do not understand why it is reported as more than it actually is/should be. Completely ridiculous, especially for a young mother who was doing literally everything possible to pursue higher education, and make a better life for myself, and contribute more to society.

I have a big problem that I'm encountering with. So a university 's cashiering office in XXXX, VA claims that I owe the debt to the school. But I claim that I don't them money. Same thing with this debt collection called Todd, Bremer, and Lawson. They were begging and keep asking me like threatening me that they want the money amount from me. I don't have enough money to cover that amount. This has been going on for months since XXXX or XXXX of 2018. I may feel that both are gon na file a lawsuit and pressing charges against me in court. Am I protected under the FDCPA? I don't know if I'm gon na go to jail if I don't pay the debt to the university cashiering office and Todd, Bremer, and Lawson agency. They also were keep calling me and sending me letters about paying up the debt, but they also begged as well. I'm trying to resolve this issue, but it didn't work for me. Both have all of my information such as address, email, phone number, and other stuff on file just like looking into my information. I want them to remove all of it for good so I won't receive anything in email or mail. I don't have enough to pay the debt, they were begging me and I don't have a job that I'm working.

Around XX/XX/XXXX I found out I had a collection for my XXXX XXXX student loan reporting on my credit so I hired XXXX XXXX to help me speak to them and resolve the account. I was unaware of this balance since my father used to help me with this loan in the past, I've moved several times and I don't have access to my student account. Regardless, XXXX and I have been in communication with them since I found out about it and have been working on a reasonable settlement to close this out. Two collection agencies and 4 months later we finally reached a settlement and I have requested for this collection to be deleted once it is settled in full because I never received a bill, collection calls, or collection emails about this account. I did not have a fair chance at paying this prior to it going to collections or reporting on my credit which is against FCRA. I'm taking responsibility for the debt and would just like it deleted once they get their money back. XX/XX/XXXX I spoke with XXXX ( Supervisor at XXXX XXXX XXXX internal Collection Dept ) and she states that they did in fact receive returned mail so they were well aware I did not receive the bills.

I was attending XXXX University and I had to drop out out of school due to my mother having XXXX . Because I dropped out XXXX University sent me to a loan collection agency which I did n't understand because it usually just goes to my Federal Loan account with all the other loans I 've taken out. I made a few XXXX dollars payments to XXXX but I 'm assuming that was not enough because they sent me to collections wi th Todd Bremer and Lawson, INC. When they contacted me about setting up payments in XXXX of 2015 I agreed for them to take out XXXX dollars each month. It is an automatic draft so I have been paying every month since. However when I questioned them about the XXXX hundred dollar fee they where charging me they just told me it was because of late fees. I let it go but now I 'm starting to wonder if those fees are even legal. XXXX hundred dollars is a lot for a loan that I thought was under Federal school loan and not a loan from the school. The school sent me only one notice before they sent me to collections and even then I sent them a few payments.

Contacted by Todd Bremer and Lawson regarding an outstanding tuition bill with XXXX XXXX University that my daughter incurred. Advised them I would pay the school directly. They called me back a week later, I advised them I paid the school directly - they disagreed, I was asked to pay the debt again. I find this tactic to be inappropriate considering that the outstanding debt was over $ XXXX. When I called to express my concerns with this interaction the manager, XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ), was rude and she hung up on me trying to have my call escalated to a more senior-level manager in the firm. When I returned the call, the secretary advised me to leave a message for TC outlining my complaint. I asked if there was some other way to express a complaint with how I was treated, the secretary said that I could leave a message for another manager. I refused to allow this issue to be not be addressed so I am forwarding a complaint to the CFPB so this firm 's practices can be reviewed for unethical practices such as attempting to collect debts not owed.

Then after I pay it they tack on XXXX in fees. This should of never been billed to me and should not be on my credit report.
