The company XXXX XXXX XXXX called and left me a message today XX/XX/XXXX, stating it was in reference to my student loan and that they needed to discuss payment options with new changes that were taking effect. This was a very misleading message I received and my loan payment is due in a week and a half so I thought I needed to call back and make sure my payment was fine. When I called back I spoke to XXXX, he stated that XXXX has a lawsuit pending against them by the government for giving out loans and offering low monthly payments that would never apply to the principle. This made sense to me given the fact that I have had my loans for almost 20 years and I still have come no where close to the principle amount. XXXX then said that his company worked with the department of education and they were given a list of students with current loans to contact them and help them with their debt. He told me that he sent me an email to help look into my account and I needed to give him the number provided in the email. I stupidly gave him the number and asked him why is this email say it is a password change and it is coming from FSA? He told me not to worry that email was from him and he would be able to access my loan information to help me out. He then changed my password. I though it was all really fishy sounding but I still gave him the number it was all confusing and I had never logged into FSA prior so it did not click what was happening at first. He then proceeded to talk about all 6 loans I have the dates amounts ect. He told me that his company would put it on a 10 year payback plan and complete wipe out the rest of the amount when this was completed. I told him that I wanted to research his company and not make any decisions until this coming Tuesday. XX/XX/XXXX. Upon further inspection, I found there website to look very fictional, the content listed on the site made no sense, not to mention it was built with XXXX photos. XXXX is there web address. I also found them listed on the XXXX for fraud. I then luckily went to FSA site and changed my password so they could not access my information any longer. I also called my loan provider and let them know the situation which brought me here.
