Provider Recovery Network has contacted me to collect an outstanding debt for about {$11000.00}. On Friday XXXX XXXX, after repeated negotiations, they called and agreed to settle for {$5.00}. However, they are refusing to put their offer in writing. I have pleaded with them several times to no effect. They seem to be very adamant about their position, and refuse to explain their reasoning. Repeatedly I am being told that they can only offer a receipt for the {$5500.00} after the money is received. My fear is that they are being deceptive and will demand more money after receiving the settlement amount.
In addition, it appears that they are in violation of the law. According to US Code, Title 15, Chapter 41, Subchapter V, 1692e : '' A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section : The false representations of:2 ( a ) The character, amount, or legal status of any debt.
( 10 ) The use of any false representation or deceptive means to collect or attempt to collect any debt or to obtain information concerning a consumer.
It is my understanding that by not committing to their settlement offer in written form, they are clearly misleading me and have a false and deceptive representation of my debt. Verbally they are saying I owe {$5500.00} ; however, the actual statement is over {$11000.00}. Again, my fear is that after receiving the initial settlement offer of {$5500.00} they will use this money as leverage and will demand more.

XXXX XXXX of Provider Recovery Network, XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, CA XXXX, telephoned my daughter several times and threatened to sue her and ruin her credit if she did not immediately pay a debt in person. She XXXX, and XXXX harassment caused her much distress. He claimed that the debt was an unpaid hospital bill. My daughter is an adult dependent covered by our family health insurance, and we have paid every bill ever received. I spoke to XXXX on XXXX/XXXX/2015 and told him to send the bill to me, and to stop contacting my daughter. To date, I have not received any bill from him ; I believe there is no debt. I would like written confirmation that we owe nothing. Thank you.

After an emergency room visit, the hospital sent the wrong billing codes to my insurance. This was clarified to the billing department at the hospital and they promised to amend. They never did and sent this as debt to a collection agency. After discussions with my insurance, the insurance decided to pay me directly for the amount and I subsequently sent payment to the collection agency. I then received an invoice from the hospital showing I owed {$0.00}. Two weeks later I get another letter from the collection agency to collect what appears to be the same debt under a different account number.
