This collections company reported to the credit reporting agencies that I defaulted on a debt that was not mine. My credit scores dropped 65 points which resulted in me having to pay a much higher interest rate on a home loan I recently acquired. The debt is not valid to begin with, it was assigned to a XXXX XXXX XXXX that I owned in the past. Somehow this collection agency got my birthday and SSN and reported to all the agencies. I contacted the collections company and explained everything and they refused to change the misreporting.
