I was called by a blocked number today. The guy told me he was going to come to my work tomorrow to " serve '' me. He said he just wanted to give me the heads up. Obviously, this shocked me. I asked him what charges and from whom. He said he could not tell me that, but he could give me the party 's number ( XXXX ) and my case number. I immediately called the number he gave me. It was Dispute Resolution Services. My " case manager '' ( XXXX XXXX ) says I owe them {$2900.00} from a check into cash loan I got on XXXX/XXXX/XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX said that if I did not resolve this today, I would be served by the guy that originally called me, who would be accompanied by a uniformed officer and that my boss would also have to sign the papers. I asked why they were coming to my work. He told me that they would try my house XXXX, but if they failed to find me there, they would go to my work. I asked when they were planning on doing this. He said between XXXX and XXXX tomorrow. He told me I could face up to 1 year in jail and have to pay an additional {$1000.00} penalty because they are charging me with check fraud under section XXXX of some law. I asked him if I could get a copy of the application from the original debtor and he said no, stating that the application was to be used against me in court. I told him I was going to need to call him back, because I was at work and a bit in shock from what he was saying. He said he would be able to give me until XXXX to call him back, or he would move forward with these charges and he gave me his extension ( XXXX ). After getting off the phone with him, I called XXXX XXXX XXXX to verify this debt. They said they sold my debt to XXXX, but XXXX is known for allowing other debtors collect on their behalf. She said many times, these are scams and get people to pay way more than what they actually owe. I was on the phone with her for a long time while she tried to find this company and/or anything about XXXX XXXX. The only thing she found said that they had their license revoked a few years ago. She was very sweet and reassured me that I was not going to jail and that she would contact XXXX to notify them of this situation. She also gave me XXXX 's number to follow up with them myself. I called XXXX, but they were closed and the voice recording asked me to leave my phone number and my full social security number.. umm, no thanks! I then called XXXX XXXX back at XXXX XXXX XXXX ( at XXXX ). XXXX did n't answer. I left him XXXX voice mails from XXXX to XXXX. NO CALL BACK!! Now, I have to go to work tomorrow in fear that a cop and some guy will show up to serve me, to publicly humiliate me and/or threaten me with more scary tactics like " jail time '' and " thousands of dollars in penalties ''.

I never received any written communication regarding this debt. XXXX XXXX called me on Friday, XX/XX/2016 and left me a voicemail on my cell phone stating he was a private investigator and threatened to pursue legal action without even speaking to me to let me know what it was in regards to. Left the same message at my parents home, my grandmother, and my boyfriends home. I called them back immediately and XXXX XXXX told me if I did n't take care of the debt by the XXXX of XXXX which was two days away that he would be at my home between XXXX and XXXX and were going to serve me with documents and take me to court. I advised him that I wanted to settle the debt and that I was unaware that I owed anything as the last payment should have come out of my checking account which was closed at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX when I got divorced. I tried to call back later that day to get a settlement offer and pay the debt, however they we 're closed. I received a phone call on Monday XXXX XXXX, 2016 and this time he did not leave a message. When I called back immediately, I pressed XXXX per the automated system and spoke with a Rep. Named XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX advised me that XXXX XXXX was handling my case but had left the office for the day for a meeting. I advised XXXX that I am unemployed at this time, but I had {$300.00} and that I was willing to pay {$300.00} today to pay the debt in full. He placed me on hold to obtain authorization for the settlement and came back on the line and told me it was approved and we proceeded to make the payment. He advised me that a receipt would be mailed showing Paid in full. At XXXX, I received a call from the debt collector and XXXX XXXX XXXX called to advise me that I did not speak to him when I called and that the offer that I received was invalid and that he would be refunding me my money and pursuing legal action. That XXXX, who works for the same collection agency and received approval for the settlement amount did n't have his permission to handle my account and that I needed to pay an additional {$260.00} to pay the account off. He said that I went behind his back and made an arrangement without his permission and continued to get very ugly with me and threaten me with legal action after the agreement was already in place and the money had already been drafted from my account. So basically because he wanted more money, he is trying to tell me that my payment will be returned and that the verbal agreement I made with XXXX XXXX who drafted the money from my account and told me it was paid in full after receiving authorization from his superior is invalid.

On XXXX/XXXX/15, my husband told me that his ex wife contacted him to let him know that someone called her house looking for him to collect a debt. On XXXX/XXXX/15, I received the following voice mail on my cell phone : '' My name is investigator XXXX XXXX. I 'm with the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Department working with XXXX County. I 'm attempting to notify XXXX XXXX of a certified court summons I 've been hired to deliver on XXXX XXXX XXXX to the home and/or place of employment. If I do appear at your place of employment, I will need a supervisor present as a witness. If for any reason you wo n't be available on that scheduled service date, or if you wish to resolve this voluntarily, you may contact the petitioner at XXXX and refer to case number XXXX. Also, your failure to notify the filing party will result in me coming out with the sheriff as well as being issued a body attachment. Thank you, XXXX. Good luck. " On XXXX/XXXX/15, I received this message : " ... left us no recourse other than to report your non-compliance in this issue to the proper jurisdiction. Our office number is XXXX. Please reference file number XXXX when calling it and have a good day. '' The first part was cut off by the outgoing voice mail message. At this point, I called the number. I told the man on the phone that I had been receiving calls from the number I dialed. He said that it looked like they were trying to reach - and he said my husband 's name. I did n't tell him that they were attempting to reach my husband ; I told him that the person they were trying to reach could not be reached at my number. He asked if I was sure. I said I was. He asked if I could get a message to that person as there were legal actions pending. I told him no, that whatever the issue might be was not my problem. He told me not to be like that, so I told him again that they could not reach the person they were looking for at my number and to take my number out of their system. He hung up on me. On XXXX/XXXX/15, I received another call with the same message as the one on XXXX/XXXX/15. Today, XXXX/XXXX/15, I received another call from the same number that I answered and disconnected right away. I am concerned at the threats of arrest, legal, action, and " body attachments '', the giving of information to someone who is not confirmed as the spouse, the continued calls after it was establish that the person they were looking for could not be reached at the number they were calling, the claims of working with the County ( and not the county I live in, either ), etc.

I received a call from an 'unavailable ' number ... as did my mother, my father, and XXXX of my sisters on their cell phones ( none of whom I 've lived with for over 20 year ), from a woman claiming to be 'Investigator XXXX XXXX from XXXX '. She claimed that she was notifying me of a certified court summons that she was hired to deliver to my home or place of employment on XXXX/XXXX/16. And that if she does appear at my place of employment, she will need my supervisor present as a witness and that I will need XXXX valid forms of identification. If I will not be available or I wish to resolve this voluntarily, I may contact the 'petitioner ' ; they are requesting to speak with me beforehand. Their number is XXXX, and then gave me a case number XXXX. Failure to contact the filing party will result in her coming out with a uniformed officer, as well as being issued a body attachment. She finished her voicemail by saying 'Thank you and good luck ... you have been legally notified '. First of all, I have had a legitimate court summons sent to me years ago after my divorce for a credit card bill that my ex did n't pay. No one called me first ; no one called my family members ; no one threatened me with police at work. It arrived from the mailman as a certified letter. Period. That is how all real legal court summons work. Do not let these people scare you into giving them money over the phone. I called the number XXXX ' left me & the voice on the 'automated answering system ' was this same XXXX ' person. When I finally got transferred to someone, the guy who answered claimed ignorance. I told him this person said you wanted to talk to me, why would she say that if the case is no longer in your office?? I raised my voice real loud & informed him that this call was being recorded and they had better stop calling me & my family & harassing me ; that I am going to report this wherever & however I can to help avoid others become victim to their scam and extortion. He claimed he was notating my account.

Several years ago, approximately 2012, I took out a payday loan to help cope with a medical emergency. I had made payments for several months. I believe I repaid at least the amount borrowed or came fairly close. Regrettably due to the continued medical issue and resulting limitations on work, I was unable to continue paying the loan. Subsequently, My family in XXXX and XXXX were contacted by a collection agency regarding the debt. At XXXX point, my brother in XXXX had his dog threatened by the collection agency. My niece in XXXX was called countless times. She reports that the collection agency threatened to take her home. They cussed at me and left messages with cursing actions. To be honest, I am not sure if they actually threatened law suits because the language became quite escalated. I remember leaving with the distinct impression that they were discussing a legal liability. My bigger concern however is the threats to my family and the abusive language. In order to get them to leave my family alone, I contacted the agency and set up a payment arrangement. At this point I contacted a financial counselor who cautioned me that this loan may be of questionable legal standing in XXXX. Consequently I postponed payment and requested information from the agency regarding the debt. They denied that they had to provide any paperwork about the situation. I contacted the original creditor and they told me to contact the collection agency. I attempted to request the mailing address for the collection agency and they refused to provide the information. I called back with my financial counselor and they also refused to provide any of the information we requested. Even the company name was not disclosed. They may be XXXX XXXX or they may be collecting for XXXX XXXX. They identified themselves as Dispute Resolutions Services but would not clarify if they were a department of XXXX or a separate company. It was at this point that I reached out to the CFPB.

ON Friday, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, my son, a friend, and I received a call/message from XXXX XXXX, and investigator for XXXX '' saying he was scheduled to come out and serve me a summons on Monday the XXXX at my house or place of employment. I could avoid this action by calling the petitioner, and gave an XXXX number. Said if I did not call that day, they would place a body attachment on me for contempt. This exact information was repeated on all three calls or message. I called the XXXX number ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and the lady informed me it was in regard to a payday loan from XXXX ( I paid this loan off ). She said she needed a receipt, but would " stop the paperwork '' to have me arrested on check fraud and attempting to defraud a financial institution. I consulted an attorney, checked my credit report, and checked with my sheriff - no record of any money owing to this place or charges pending. I called back to get an address and was placed on a lengthy hold after being asked why I needed it ( I said I needed to mail something to them ). They finally gave me an address, and it is the same address of another company, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, that attempted this same thing with me in XXXX. At that time, a collection had been placed on my credit file, which I disputed and proved payment, and it has been removed from my credit report. I filed a complaint at that time on that company as well. Since the debt has been paid and the company issuing the loan has since closed, I feel sure this is a scam, and the company has violated laws with their threats and sharing of information to other persons who are not me.

I told her I ca n't pay today so she sent me to er manager. He stated the same charges and that I would be served and taken to court if I did n't pay. I called XXXX XXXX XXXX directly at XXXX and was told my account was sent to XXXX collection agency ( XXXX ) but they are not pressing charges of any kind just seeking repayment. I called XXXX whom said they sold the account to XXXX XXXX collections ( XXXX ). XXXX XXXX confirmed they brought my account and had contracted National Arbitration to collect the debit, but again are not pressing any charges. So I called back national arbitration to let them know I confirmed the original creditor is not pressing charges and what the said is false and illegal. I was transferred to a supervisor named XXXX how looked at the account note to see whom I 'd previously spoken with. He stated he had this same issue with the XXXX reps whom gave false and illegal information before and they would be dealt with.

I received a call on my cell phone where a person was looking for my brother. The person indicated that the petitioner was filing something against my brother. That person provided a phone number XXXX and indicated this was a notice. I called the number it was listed to XXXX. I spoke to a man his last name was XXXX. I informed him I was calling behind a phone call I received for my brother. XXXX indicated could not provided me with detailed information but indicated was filing a complaint in XXXX County court for criminal actions against my brother and threatened a body attachment. He indicated that my brother used me as a referenced informed him I knew nothing about what he was talking about ; he furthermore indicated that it was in regards to monetary issues concerning my brother owed. Informed him thatI was his sister and that my brother was grown my brother has not lived with me in years and I had not spoke to my brother in months. XXXX proceeded in telling me that since I was used as a reference that I could be summoned to court. I was able to reach my brother to tell him to call these people however I called XXXX back to ask where they were based out of and male indicated New York and they were arbitrators and not bill collectors. I have worked litigation before I have never known an arbitrator to release any information to a XXXX party and place a threat of a body attachment when initially processing a court proceeding.

I was contacted by an Investigator XXXX of the XXXX working with the XXXX County Sheriff 's Dept trying to find me to deliver a court summons for fraud and they left a phone number for the company that was trying to reach me, not to reach the investigator. I contacted the company XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and they said I have a pay day loan outstanding that went fraudulent back in 2013. I had an ex boyfriend who was using my information to get pay day loans before so I figured this was just another one. I 'm trying to fix my credit so I just pay them when they come up now. But they wanted my bank/credit card information. I said I 'd rather get a pre-paid card and give them that information for payments. I called back and gave her the prepaid card information and she sent me an email with the break down of the payment arrangements I 'd made. It was then that I realized a couple of things. It is illegal for a debt collector to collect, or attempt to collect, on a payday loan in New York State. Also, she sent me a generic word document as the payment arrangement document. Also, the email address she sent the payment arrangement from is a gmail account. Most companies do n't use gmail accounts. Also, I looked up the company name and it has been reported by other people online for being a scam/fraudulent. I have her email and I have payments set up to be made but no payments were ever actually made to the company.

Son - I received a subpoena in the mail stating that I owed {$470.00} to XXXX XXXX XXXX and they were going to take me to court if I did not pay them {$270.00}. I called them and told them that I did not borrow the money, they told me that I still owed them the money and that I would have hire a lawyer to prove that the account was n't mine and that the attorney would cost more than the money I owed. I tried to borrow the money from my mom and she said that she would check into this, that I should not pay for something that I did not do. Mom - I checked into the phone number and realized that it was a scam wherein the company was trying to exhort money from my son by threatening him. I called the company on the letterhead and told them that I knew this was a scam and not to expect money from him, they claimed that my son told them that he borrowed the money and agreed to pay it back. They also claimed that they did not threaten him, if a law suit is not a threat, I do n't know what one would be. I also called XXXX XXXX XXXX and they have no record of him ever borrowing money from them. I do not know how they got my sons information but as they has his name, address and last XXXX of his social security number.

I received a call from a company claiming to be called National Arbitration from phone number XXXX. The call came in around XXXX. They called my spouse then my cell phone. When I answered they immediately asked how I was related to my spouse. I said who is this? He said he was with a company investigating a case of fraud and theft. I said from who? He said the state of Oregon. They said it was for theft of goods and services. I said who do you represent and then he finally said a XXXX loan company XXXX XXXX XXXX. I said oh ok well I need to let you know that I am in OR and you are calling way too early. He said he was not bound by any collection laws such as FDCPA. I told him I need to advise you I have an attorney that is hired to file bankruptcy and you need to contact him as Ace is named in our bankruptcy. He said it isn't filed yet. I told him that is all I have to tell you please contact my atty. He said well I am going to come to your house and you will be served any licenses you have will be terminated. So I hung up. He immediately called back with a blocked number and said they were on the way to our house and the he contacted the atty and he will not back me with this. I hung up again.

No one contacted me or came to my mother 's home. Researching on the internet unfair debt collection practices I came across your website.

A company called the " XXXX '' ( XXXX ) called myself AND my brother and said that I was due in court in two days and that they were coming with a sheriff to serve me papers at either my home or place of employment and that my employer would need to sign as a witness of me being served and arrested! I also had to sign for them and then I was being arrested unless I paid a debt in full. Same company has called me in the past leaving my social security number in a voicemail and telling me that leaving the message was my formal notification and have ID available when I am served and arrested! I have no idea what this debt is and in the few attempts I 've made to discover info about this " debt '' no one can ever give me ANYTHING! Just says what county and state it 's from and that it 's attached to my social security number and current phone number.

I called them back and asked for their address so I could contact a lawyer due to harassment they said they were not entitled to give me there address that that information was none of my business and that they would be filing criminal charges against me for asking and for harassing them and they hung up on me. Ive been told in the past this is in relation to a payday loan of which Ive never applied for ... .I live in a WV which is a state that does not allow payday loans so it would be impossible for me to have one.

My name is XXXX XXXX. I have a distant Aunt that I have n't talked to in about a decade named XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Out of the blue, this debt collector starts calling me threatening legal action ( And claiming to need an " attorney statement '' under the guise of being a local PD/investigator ) with messages for XXXX XXXX. He called multiple times looking for this relative and leaving messages with details about her debt and personal life. I do n't want to hear about this distant relative or her legal troubles. I have no association with this relative, and I am sure it is illegal to contact completely unrelated third party relatives looking to collect under very shady methods. I have no idea how they got my number or believe that it is acceptable. They now call several times a day.

A person named XXXX XXXX from ph # XXXX called my mother 's ph # repeatedly ( even though she has told them I do not live there ) alleging she is an investigator sending someone out to my place of residence to serve me with legal documents. She also stated if I am unavailable they will come to my place of work. I have previously received a call like this and contacted the state and county courts to make sure. I had no pending cases against me. Still do n't. I once called them back and they stated to avoid a warrant for my arrest I have to pay {$400.00} by means of a prepaid debit card. They would accept nothing else. They said it was for a payday loan left unpaid. I called the payday loan people and no one could find my debt. These people need to be stopped.

They called my job 4 times within 2 hours. I told them not to call me there and they told me they would call anytime they wanted. Also told me they were getting ready to take legal action against me. Said they were going to deliver legal papers to my home or work. Refused to give me their physical and/or mailing address. Stated they were under no legal obligation to. They refused to tell me why they were calling or what type of business they were. After some research I found they were a " debt collector ''.

I received a call from an " officer '' XXXX XXXX. He called with no caller ID and claimed to be working with my county and threatened to come to my home or place of employment this Wednesday to serve me. Said I would need a supervisor present and a valid state ID. Said to call XXXX immediately to prevent being served. The number left is for dispute resolution services, a collection agency. They are misrepresenting themselves as a legal agency and are using threatening tactics.

A company calls me numerous times from several different numbers telling me they are from some division law company. Stating that they will file a lawsuit against me because a complaint has been issued under my Social Security number. Saying criminal justice legal law services. It is usually a different legal law service department that calls me. They are calling on my cell phone and at work. They are calling my kids cell phones also and threating them also.
