We reached out to XXXX XXXX, a lender from Liberty Capital Services , LLC, for a loan application to purchase a house. During the communication and email exchange, we shared the information about the address, what type of house we are buying ( a duplex ), etc. He sent us the Closing Disclosed Estimates with 0.403 % of loan amount ( points ) origination charges. We used this number for the whole working process. Two or three days before our initially scheduled closing date, he sent us the formal Closing Disclosure document, and the point increased to 1.403 % of loan amounts, which means at least another {$2400.00} cost from our end. We reached out to him, trying to figure out why. And he said the reason for the difference in the points is his " mistake. '' He put the number wrong. And he wants us to sign the new closing disclosure soon. We refused to sign it. This explanation won't help us accept and let us pay an extra {$2400.00}. We also realized in some states, according to XXXX, it is illegal to increase the lenders fees ( i.e., origination charges ) between documents. His behavior is like a scam. So we emailed him respectfully, saying this is unacceptable to inform us a few days before closing that we need to pay extra thousands of dollars because of his mistake. We shared all the information appropriately for the loan application, and he couldn't just change the lender fees because of a " mistake. '' And we also mentioned in the email we would like to have a solution from them. Then, one day later, he sent us a really rude, disrespectful email claiming that even this is his fault, he strongly believes we should choose him and accept what happened and continues the closing anyway. He also threatened us in the email that we should think about how much mess and issues may arise with the seller if we cancel the closing now. This email made us feel really hurt and uncomfortable. He didn't apologize for how much inconvenience may be caused because of his fault and how the extra cost may be an extra burden. His behavior also feels like a scam to us. We feel fooled by him and his company. We already spend more than {$1000.00} on the closing, with almost {$800.00} for appraisal and {$400.00} for inspection. Now we are in a dilemma : continue closing with him but actually feel fooled, scammed, and disrespected, and need to pay an extra {$2400.00} ; we're unwilling to continue working with someone disrespectful and rude. If not continue closing, we waste more than {$1000.00} and lose our chance to buy the house we want because the seller may not be willing to wait for another 1-2 months. We believe this is misconduct of the lender and his company. And we want a better solution to make us feel we are treated fairly and honestly.
