I received a phone call today from a blocked number. They left a voicemail stating " Hello. This message is intended for a ( my name ). This is XXXX ( last name XXXX ) contacting you about a scheduled delivery of legal documents that requires your signature. This is a courtesy call prior to legal documents being issued out to your home, residence, or place of employment. If you have any questions or concerns or need to reschedule a time of delivery you can contact the complaining party directly at XXXX Again, the number is XXXX. The case number is refer to case ID number ( then gave the number ). Thank you, you've officially been notified. '' I called the number they gave me and spoke to someone named XXXX. They said that I owe XXXX for a payday loan from 2005 in the amount of {$570.00}. They had my maiden last name, the old address I lived at, and where I worked then. She told me that I had signed a contract saying that they had up to 15 years to come after the debt. She said I was being sued for the amount owed and for intentionally defrauding a financial institution. XXXX sent me an email that just had the amount owed and the name of the lender. I called back and asked for a copy of the documents I had signed and proof from the company. She told me that it was evidence that XXXX is using against me in a lawsuit so they can not send it to me. She transferred me to a supervisor who repeated what she said, adding that I would have to attend a hearing in order to receive the documentation. I asked if I was supposed to just pay a 13 year old debt with no proof that I owe it, and she said yes.

The Company in question 'Northland Group ' had a rep named XXXX XXXX ' leave a voicemail on my work phone stating they were contacting me regarding delivering legal documents out to my home and place of employment. They left a case number XXXX ' for reference and ended the message that I have now been 'notified ' as if this was some sort of legally binding notification. I promptly called the company back at XXXX per their voicemail. I asked for additional information, i.e. who is their client and what debt is this and from when? They claim I took out a payday loan in 2005 which I 'm not aware of. In any event, it 's well past the standard statute of limitations. I suspect this company has bought a list of old debt or this is a scam. Either way, they are going after a debt illegally and threatening to sue if I do n't make due on the debt.
