I am a first time home buyer that began shopping around for a home mortgage loan. I made contact with XXXX XXXX of HomePlus Mortgage. On XX/XX/2019 XXXX XXXX had me sign documents that required me to provide a credit card for a {$500.00} appraisal and sign an intent to proceed despite not receiving a loan estimate. The document 's wording was as such : " By signing below, I/we express intent to continue with the application for which a Loan Estimate was issued on ________. '' No date was given because I had not received a loan estimate. The document for the appraisal fee also contained wording requesting a contact number and best time to contact me to " schedule an appointment. '' I expressed my concern to Mr. XXXX about paying {$500.00} for the appraisal and he advised that I would not be charge until the disclosure. On XX/XX/2019 I received the loan estimate from HomePlus Mortgage. On XX/XX/2019 I advised Mr. XXXX that I would be reviewing the disclosure with my wife. After comparing HomePlus Mortgage 's loan estimate with other mortgage lenders I advised Mr. XXXX on XX/XX/2019 I declined his offer and that I would be working with another loan company. Between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX I had no conversations with anyone from HomePlus Mortgage indicating that I accepted the loan estimate. On XX/XX/2019 I received a text from Mr. XXXX stating that I gave him fake credit card number and demanding {$500.00} for the appraisal. I indicated to Mr. XXXX that I did not give him a fake credit card number but had cancelled said credit card and that I never accepted the loan estimate HomePlus Mortgage. When asked when he ordered the appraisal Mr. XXXX refused to answer. HomePlus Mortgage continues to demand {$500.00} and threatens to send the matter to a collection agency and/or contact the police for " fraud. ''
