I purchased my home from Habitat for Humanity in XX/XX/XXXX. During the entire time they held my mortgage, they NEVER reported payments to any credit bureau. In XXXX, I got behind, and instead of modifying the loan and paying slightly more over the remaining course of the loan, they required me to pay {$530.00} per month on top of my mortgage which skyrocketed my payment to roughly {$1200.00}. ( As a single person income, this was 50 % of what I made. ) In early XXXX, my wages were garnished. I notified Habitat immediately via email and was told to contact them. After repeated phone messages and no response, I sent regular letters via certified mail with my monthly payments ( which they signed for, received the money orders and kept. ) Since I had not heard anything, I continued to reach out in this manner. In late XX/XX/XXXX, I came home to a foreclosure note on my door. I needed to cure {$20000.00} according to Habitat although repeated requested for documentation went unanswered. In order to cure, the money had to be received no later than the day before the hearing. Habitat kept my XXXX payments until the day of court making it impossible for me to cure. My home was ordered to be sold which came with it's own problems. Long story short, I was not provided with closing info ( including Habitat 's pay-off ) until days before closing. It was then that I discovered that Habitat claimed I owed them {$150000.00} even though I paid {$150000.00} ( and in a addition I paid a {$500.00} deposit ) when I bought the house 10 years ago. Part of what Habitat was asking for was 7 % on the remaining balance due which added up to just over {$5000.00} in revenue for them. This home is a ZERO percent interest loan being handled by a non-profit organization. How can they apply 7 % to what they are demanding as well as getting 50 % of any equity? To me, that seems like profit off of the homeowners that maintain and make upgrades to their homes. Habitat does nothing. In fact, our buildings have MAJOR structural damage - including my pipes that froze every winter for 10 years, roofs that need to be replaced due to shoddy materials/workmanship and even a radon pipe that was severed during building, but not found until we hired an inspector to come look at the homes because Habitat would do nothing. Habitat wants to " act '' like a mortgage company when it comes to foreclosing, collecting late payment fee 's, etc., but not when it comes to fairly reporting to credit bureaus or provided documentation of what has been paid, etc. or accept responsibility for major structural issues. These homeowners are being used for their " sob stories '' then dumped like hot bricks when Habitat moves on to their next build. They ignore their homeowners pleas. In fact, in court the CEO of this affiliate admitted under oath that even though she had my current email address, the 12 emails she alleged she sent regarding my loan default she intentionally send to my old email ( When I reached out in early XXXX I used my current email address, and one of the family services workers responded to that email, so I know they had current information. ) In my opinion, this affiliate stood in the way of my repeated attempts to not only come current with my mortgage ( I had a plan & that plan was sent to Habitat ) but also stood in the way of my ability to cure. Since I sent money orders ( and Habitat held them ) I had NO way of coming up with that kind of money again.
