On XXXX/XXXX/XXXX I received back to back calls from ( XXXX ) XXXX & one call to my home. Voicemail was left by XXXX, stating that needed to verify address & employer so they could process their claim against me. Threatened to contact my references. Was told I could call ( XXXX ) XXXX, no other information was given. I could on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX & was told that they, Global Recovery Group, were trying collect on a Payday loan that I " applied '' for online & " received '' from XXXX XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$450.00} back on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX. I informed that that I never took out such a loan & never heard of this company. Insisted that because they have my email address that I did do it & just do n't remember the name because the online site was just how I applied. They also know my bank account number which has me nervous. Was given a website, openconsumer.info that allowed me to access my account with them using my claim # XXXX. It shows my SS # and address, but no date of birth or employer. it has a tab to view documents but no documents are there. I faxed bank statement with just deposits visible to prove no deposits were made in that amount at the time they say I took out such loan. I asked for verbal & written confirmation that the matter was resolved & was told that they could not do that. When I explained that all debts paid get proof, I was told I was being too technical. The website now shows inactive with a balance of {$620.00}. This has all the signs of a scam/fraud. The XXXX XXXX is warning consumers to be aware of scam debt collectors operating into south Louisiana. The XXXX has recently received several calls from concerned residents concerning at least XXXX variations of this type of scam over the last two weeks. The first scam involves scammers calling consumers and informing them they would be arrested by local law enforcement in the immediate future if they did not immediately remit payment for a payday loan they took out months or even years prior. In most cases, residents have never even taken out these loans, but the XXXX has received reports of people paying XXXX to avoid the possibility of arrest. These callers are also persistent and violate state and federal phone collection laws by calling at all hours of the day and night to home, cell and work numbers. Scammers do this in order to either annoy residents at home or embarrass innocent employees at their work place in order to pressure them into paying in order to stop the harassment and threat of possible job loss.

Immediately after three separate failed attempts by a XXXX number exactly 1 minute apart to contact me on my cell phone, my wife got a call from a " local '' number on her cell phone XXXX which she answered. The person was claiming to be XXXX XXXX ( a courier ) that would be delivering law suit paperwork if I did not call XXXX and give them reference number XXXX. So I called the XXXX number listed above and was told that the company name trying to collect was Global ( nothing else " just Global ). They claimed that I acquired a payday loan which now has accrued a balance of XXXX. I asked them what the original loan amount was that was taken out and when it was taken out ( both of which they could not answer except to say, " we ca n't see that on our end '' ). I then asked him for Globals mailing/street address, contact telephone number, debt collection license number, and a validation letter. Once I did this I was asked to be placed on hold. After a brief hold I was then " transferred '' to the complaint department ( to my surprise ). I quickly restated the previous questions in the same order and then the women ( whom never would give me her name ) got angry and told me to do better research on what to ask of debt collectors and then got hung up on. Shortly following that conversation I received a call from a " NO CALLER ID '' and it was XXXX XXXX again. He was threatening to deliver paperwork to my place of employment Envoy ( which is n't even accurate ). I asked him who the debt collector was and all of the same questions to which he had no answers to. He just kept threatening me with being served papers and asking where I was and when he could show up. I told him to come to my house to deliver them and I 'd be waiting for him. He then stated numerous times that he would come to my place of business and ask the president of my company where I was currently even though I had just told him I 'd be at home. I laughed. He then kept asking me if I thought this was a joke etc. I finally said yes I think it is considering I have never taken a loan out and that no one could offer me any sort of legitimate answers to my simple questions. My assumption is that is a total scam. Therefor I am formally filing a complaint in hopes that the CFPB can begin an investigation against this apparent scam.

I have been receiving multiple calls on my personal cell phone and my work phone from a company claiming I owe money for an online loan from XXXX. I have no memory of taking this loan and when asked for proof they told me they could send me a letter from their office but would not have the original documents as the " loan '' had been sold several times. They threatened to see me at home or work if I did not pay. I called the number XXXX and spoke with a woman who refused to give me her address or let me talk with a supervisor. She yelled over me and kept saying with I resolve this voluntarily or they would do it through the law and courts in XXXX XXXX. I do n't live in XXXX XXXX. I finally called back and got a man named XXXX who still refused to give me his address but said they would contact " Web Loan '' and see if they had the orinigal paperwork and would send it to me. I told them if I owe something I pay it and I did not believe this was legitimately my loan and that by law they needed to provide proof in writing. Again said it was doubtful that they would be able to get anything and that the original amount was {$500.00} but the amount to settle would be {$800.00} and would I be willing to pay today? I searched them online for both " GR Group '' and " Global Recovery Group '' and found XXXX in VA. I called them and spoke to XXXX XXXX XXXX who apologized and told me that they are using the name of his business but he is not in the personal loan collection business. Here is his e-mail to me : Dear XXXX XXXX : I am sorry you have been contacted by the " Global Recovery '' entity that is frequently mistaken with my company, Global Recovery Group, XXXX. I have repeatedly sought to alert the CFPB about this entity and its tactics, and attach a letter from XXXX in this regard. My suggestion is that you file a complaint with CFPB directly. On XX/XX/2018 at approximately XXXX XXXX I was contacted by a representative at the number XXXX. I was never told the name of the company but was promptly informed that I owed a debt for a pay day loan. I was told 'the comapny XXXX XXXX was looking to pursue 2 separate charges. One for fraud and one for checks fraud '. I was skeptical because of the many phone scams that are currently going around and I had not yet been given the name of the company that was actually calling to collect said debt ( {$470.00} ). I eventually talked with a woman who claimed she was XXXX XXXX. I explained that I in no way tried to defraud anything at the time of the payday loan ( 1.5 years ago ) but that I currently could not make a payment within the 20 minute time frame she was giving me before I would be 'served by a process server '. I would need some time as currently all my money pays for my living expenses and child care. And that if my only option was to pay in 20 minutes or be served then I guess I would tell the same thing to the judge. XXXX XXXX then thought it was appropriate to tell me that, and I quote : 'Better have a really good car because I'll never be able to get a loan again ' as well as insinuate that I am an irresponsible XXXX year old ( like I don't know I have made mistakes ). She was incredibly unprofessional. I was absolutely shocked that this woman would be allowed to berate and harass customers on a daily bases. XXXX XXXX then hung up on me after I asked for her name and then supervisor. I promptly called back and made a complaint with this company. I will admit I talked with 3 other people at the company that were much nicer and were able to act in a professional manner. I also paid my account in full less than 1 week later and only then was I finally informed that the company is Global Recovery. I am still not 100 % convinced it isnt a scam as the XXXX I was given does not pull up any Credit Recovery company when ran. My complaints are with the company not clearly identifying themselves with an actual company name and with their unprofessional and rude employee XXXX XXXX who insulted and berated me over the phone.

This company refuses to send me documentation of the debt they say I owe. They said it 's against their policy and they are not allowed to send me anything in the mail or by email. I 've asked multiple times and was told my credit card company should 've did that prior to giving my debt to their company. They also are threatening to send someone to my house or work to give me a packet, yet nobody comes. They also said that by not paying I 'm committing fraud and it 's being reported as such. I attempted to make payments and set up payment arrangements and they said they wo n't take less than XXXX a month and hung up on me when I said I ca n't afford that much in a month. They refuse to work with me. I want documentation on my debt and I am unable to get them to send me anything. They call multiple family members in and out of state, even after talking to me and knowing my address and phone number. They tell my family I have a lawsuit against me and they hang up on my family once they are asked to not call again. They continue to call my family even after speaking to me on the phone. If I am unable to answer the phone I immediately get another call, within the same minute of the previous call. They imply that something bad will happen if I do n't pay them and that I am committing fraud, their words, and it will be reported and treated as such. This company also does n't verify my information before disclosing any info. They do n't say, this is an attempt to collect a debt and any information will be used for that purpose. I could be anyone on the phone and they disclose everything.

This collection agency told my husband, who is not on the credit card and did not have anything to do with it, all of the information about the credit card and what I owed and threatened him with being involved if I did n't pay. They wo n't tell us who they are, the name of the firm or anything. They leave threatening calls at my home and work. They have called my XXXX year old parents and my daughter in California. They call every fifteen minutes. I have tried repeatedly to call the number they leave when I can get to a place to have privacy ( XXXX ) and I 'm left on hold over and over again for outrageous times. I have the cell phone records to prove I 've been trying to reach them. Last night I was on hold for 3 hours and 37 minutes before I finally went to bed. I do n't know if this is a scam. I do owe for a credit card but without knowing who they are - I 'm not giving them my financial information. Yesterday the man calling my work phone threatened to find me in person if I did not call them. That is why I sat online over 3 hours last night trying to reach them. Please help. I do n't know what to do.

I was contacted over 9 times after I spoke to a representative at this " Global '' company. The rep, XXXX, told my daughter he was a Private Investigator and had papers that I would be served at my job. He said to call back XXXX, and left a claim number. I called the number moments after she gave me the message. I spoke to a very rude rep, requested to have proof of debt sent, and she refused. I requested a supervisor and she refused to transfer me to a supervisor. After she hung up on me, I received 4 phone calls at my place of employment from XXXX and the same rep that called my daughter, XXXX, was calling stating he wanted to verify employment. I told him he needed to call the work number for everyone to verify employment, as we do not verify employment directly through my employer. I told him I was ending the call and hung up. He called my cellular phone an additional 4 times after that, and finally calling my job one final time threatening to come to my employer and serve me with legal papers.

Global recovery group calls several times a day, usually repeatedly in a row. They also leave threatening messages about finding out where I work and coming to my house. I have requested an address for debt validation and the man who calls me refuses to give me an address. I have asked repeatedly for a letter to be sent to my house and the caller refuses. He emailed me a letter even though I requested something in writing more than once. The letter says the company is global recovery group and also says the current creditor is XXXX XXXX XXXX. So I have no real information on who I 'm suppose to respond to. The call wo n't tell me his last name. The messages I receive are from a woman named XXXX who states I 'm going to be served with a claim at home or at work. Still, all requests for written communication or an address to send a certified letter are refused. They continue to call my husband and my parents house after I requested them to stop

The company had what they called " locators '' call me non stop, these people demanded personal information such as address. They told me that if I did not call a certain number, they would be coming to my house to serve me papers. I called the number and they said there company was called Global. They told me that if I did n't set up payment plans, they would not call off the locators and they would come to my home and serve my with legal papers that day. I was scared into setting up a payment arrangement. I lost my debit card, so when they went to process the second debit, it failed. I just received repeated calls from a number of only '' XXXX '' the voicemail left was threatening in nature..they said I only had hours to correct the error. They then said that if I did n't fix this, The exact words were " Good Luck '' They have called my job, and harassed my boss over this XXXX. This ca n't be legal!

I was called by a man who would not give me any information but told me he would be showing up at my house in 30 minutes to handle my " incident '' I asked him for more info and he would not do anything but gave me a phone number. Then he tried to get me to confirm personal info and I refused. He called me XXXX XXXX and said he would see me soon and hung up. I called the number and they again refused to give me a website or mail me a letter. They wanted my bank info over the phone. When I refused they told me.I had 30 minutes before someone would be showing up at my house. The man continued to call me every 15 minutes for 2 hours until I called the police. I was locked inside my house for 2 hours with my baby terrified some XXXX person was about to show up and I did n't even know why.

Global Recovery Group continues to call my phone number. They continually threaten to sue or send my " case '' to court. They threaten that I will be " served '' court papers at my place of work. They refuse to send me any information or a validation notice, which is required by law. I have spoken with XXXX and XXXX, the company that Global Recovery Group claims to be collecting for, multiple times. My debt to XXXX was paid back in 2014. I have record that the debt was paid and satisfied. XXXX also informed me that they do not use third-party debt collectors and have told me over and over not to pay this group and that it is a scam. The scammers have called under two different phone numbers and names : Global Recovery Group at XXXX and XXXX at XXXX.

This company, Global Recovery Group or GRG, has called BOTH my sisters in New York and Oregon looking for me and telling them they are serving papers to me for a debt I owe and that they have a pending lawsuit against me. They are even calling my sister at her job, even though she has REPEATEDLY asked them to stop. I do not know who these people are and I am horrified that they are harassing my family. Please make them stop. This is very upsetting and could cost my sister her job. I have received nothing in writing from these people and do not know what they want. If this was a legitimate debt, why arent they sending me a letter validating the debt?

Global Recovery Group contacted me about a payday loan they claim was taken out in my name. The XXXX data provided by Global is not mine and I unequivocally deny having taken out a payday loan or similar. Additionally, there has not been an attempt to collect from the payday loan company at any point. The " loan '' is not listed on my credit report nor have I received any notification from my credit monitor that a payday loan was applied for or given. I believe this to be a scam to collect on a non-existent or fraudulent loan.
