We purchased a home and paid cash ( not contingent to financing ) in XXXX XXXX XXXX, Florida. The SELLER chose the title company ; and in doing so, agreed to pay for the title policy and associated costs. At closing, the title company charged us ( the buyers ) a fee which we never agreed to of {$350.00} as a " processing fee ''. We argued that we had our own attorney representing us and wouldnt pay a fee to a third party company who was selected by the sellers and not by us. The title company threatened that if we didtn pay the fee, they could stop our purchase and cost us our deposit which was a large amount of money. We are pretty sure that this type of act is a direct violation of RESPA and needs to be addressed.
