Yesterday, my wife and I submitted an application for a HELOC with a known and trusted bank with whom we are already doing business. Today, I received an unsolicited text message on my phone, addressing my wife by name, from someone named " XXXX '' at " Catalyst Mortgage. '' The text says in part, " I'm reaching out as we were notified by XXXX, XXXX and XXXX of your recent credit inquiry for a mortgage product, '' and going on to offer a competing loan product. This is either an extraordinary coincidence, or one or more of the credit bureaus have shared confidential information, including our name, phone number, and the fact that we've applied for a mortgage product, without our consent. I have attached a copy of the text message, which includes an XXXX number.
