I received a phone call from a company call C & M associates who told me I owed over {$4000.00} on a credit card account issued to me by XXXX Bank in XXXX . They offered to settle the debt out for {$1700.00}. After going over my records I could find no information that I ever had this credit card, nor any indications from my bank records that I ever paid anything on this account nor does my credit reports show any indication that this account was in arrears. To the best of my recollection I never had this account, never received statements from that bank, nor did I ever receive any calls or dunning letters from collection agencies, other banks who bought out this debt from XXXX XXXX until yesterda XXXX XXXX . After 14 years I talked to only the man who called me yesterday and offered me a settlement on this account. He never identified himself as a debt collector and when I asked him if he worked as a debt collector he said no that he worked for a debt acquisition company. I asked this man to send all documents pertaining to this account and he agreed. Although he never orally told me the name of the company he worked for it showed on my caller ID to be C & M associates. I looked up the company online and contacted them. At first they told me they had no information at all under the case number provided to me. Then I was transferred to another man who told me the case had been closed. However he could not open the file himself and I was directed to a supervisor who had access to the file who opened it and said it was closed to do " refusal to pay ''. I never refused to pay but asked for documentation of this debt. I was then told I could settle this debt for " let 's say {$500.00} '' and I said no that until they could show me some documents which showed I actually owed this debt I would not pay anything to resolve the matter at hand.. He promised to look into further and contact me if he found evidence of ID THEFT. As I said above over a 14 year period I have never received any communication from XXXX Bank, Collections Agencies or any of the banks that XXXX Bank sold out there credit card debt too. As I understand it this debt was sold to XXXX XXXX , then to XXXX and finally to XXXX & XXXX . After that it was sold to a number of debt acquisition companies before ending up with C & M Associates. As I h ave said, first the man I spoke to did not inform me he was trying to collect a debt, and I over a 14 year period have never received any communications in any form as to the status of this credit card account, so I was never given a chance to dispute it, plus there are no record of this debt on my credit reports or my bank records. I am left with many questions about XXXX Bank a nd C & M Associates. It is hard for me to believe that this debt was floating around for 14 years and I never received any communication from a Debt Collector, nor that it does not show in anyway on my credit reports. I am dumbfounded by this and any advice your agency would provide me would greatly be appreciated.

I received a call on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX from a " XXXX '', who did n't say what organization she was from until I asked. She said she was with C & M Associates group trying to collect a debt from a XXXX XXXX Account I had. When I questioned the validity of the debt and asked to speak to a manager to obtain more information regarding the amount and more specific details, I was referred to a XXXX XXXX who essentially berated me on the phone in a derogatory manner. When I asked for his address or physical location address he could n't provide one. On XXXX/XXXX/XXXX -- The next day I called XXXX XXXX XXXX, but they were unable to provide an update status due to the age of the account, they could n't tell me how much was owed, what was rented or the last date of payment or what address it was associated with. It just stated it was a " skip '' account, but nothing more. The fact that they it did list an account, I assumed perhaps the account was valid, so I called the collection agency back to see what arrangements could be made to settle account. ( Note this account is not appearing on my credit file currently ). She ( XXXX ) said they would be able to settle the account from the {$5000.00} that was owed to {$1000.00} via way of 5 monthly bank drafts which I had initially agreed to. But then when I hung up and researched the company more, I could n't find them on the internet, no physical location listed or anything. I did see numerous complaints filed via XXXX though. The one phone number I did find was an XXXX #, and when I called it, an " XXXX '' answered the phone but she sounded very much like " XXXX ''. XXXX said that once the arrangement was made she would be sending me a confirmation email of the arrangement. I have yet to receive such confirmation. By XXXX, I contacted my bank to close out my account for I felt that request was payment was fraudelent and changed my phone number also to prevent harrassment. This person was also calling my family members harrassing them. I was advised to contact the police who advised me that this sounded like a collection scam and that I should contact the FTC -- who advised me that I should file a complete here with Consumer Finance. If possible, please stop the activities of this collection agency. This is the only number I have for them XXXX XXXX XXXX. Any assistance you can provide would be great. If I do owe XXXX, I would gladly work with XXXX to get that resolved, but they do n't even have that information in their system anymore. What would be my rights be at this point for an account that old when the company has no record of any information for that account. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

On or around XX/XX/XXXX I received a call from XXXX at C & M Associates claiming to be trying to collect a debt from a credit card from XXXX. I was threatened with a law suit, liens on my home and bank account. I got angry and he hung up on me. I felt bad so the next day I called this company back and spoke with a gentleman named XXXX XXXX I explained to him that I did not have the money to settle this debt, in the amount of XXXX, so I was offered a settlement amount of XXXX which I thought was something I could do given some time. XXXX asked me if I could pay XXXX and that would lock in the settlement amount, and that I would have until XX/XX/XXXX to pay the remaining balance of XXXX. I reluctantley gave him my checking account information, stating to him that I was not comfortable doing so, he promised me that no other monies would be taken out of my account without my ok. I was told that he would keep in touch to see where I was financially. I spoke with XXXX again on XX/XX/XXXX at which time I was thinking that I would have the money in the bank, but was not 100 % sure ... so he said he would call me the day before it was due, which would've been XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX XXXX had contacted me, at which time I told him that I did not have the money in my account, he informed that by not settling this case I would be sued, I would have a lien on my home, on my bank account ... and I told him that unfortunately I would have to take that chance I had not realized that they money had already been deducted from my account ... he acted as though he had no idea. On XX/XX/XXXX a deposit had been made into my account, which I was using for my mortgage payment. Low and behold that on XX/XX/XXXX I went to the ATM to make a small withdrawal, it was rejected stating there were insufficient funds, I then looked at my account on my phone and saw that on XX/XX/XXXX a payment of XXXX was withdrawn and sent to C & M Associates. I was livid, this left my account with XXXX in it, which in turn my house payment bounced. I called XXXX at C & M Associates and he told me that is what my agreement was, that I was told that the payment was due on the XXXX, and that I postdated the checking information for that day. I told him that I did no such thing, I told XXXX on the XXXX that I would not have the money for XX/XX/XXXX. Therefore they took the money out of my account without permission, they stole my money ... .I have tried to email them, but it comes back stating access denied ... ..I am at wits end. I have contacted the District Atttorney 's office in XXXX County. I have also filed a complaint with the XXXX ... ..I will pursue charges if forced too.

I received a call on a work phone in a co-workers office. They asked me for my name without introduction then began asking some personal information. I didn't provide anything I thought they could use to steal my identity but verified who was. I was then put on hold and connected to a male who began by asking me if his coworker explained the nature of the call. I told him no. He then told me that I had a debt that started at around {$1500.00} but was now {$3600.00}. He said it was from XXXX XXXX. I told him that I have never owned an account there. He said he wanted to get do to the bottom of things and figure out what was going on. He then asked me if I was divorced, if an ex-wife could have done this and if she ever did anything like this before. I told him yes she has and much worse. ( I have been in litigation for over 6 years with her and this case is a matter of public record. He could have looked it up. ) I asked him what his name was but he just continued talking. There was a lot of noise in the back ground and it was hard to understand him. I asked him if he was in a call center. His reply was his company has its own collections department. He told me that he would talk with the creditor and see if they would settle the debt because of my divorce. When he came back he said they would take the original balance of around {$1500.00}. I told him again that I never had that debt. He said that if I didn't settle he would begin the process. He then asked me if I lived at an address I resided at 26 yeas ago. He also said I would see my debt on my XXXX and XXXX credit scores and it was my job to dispute it. since I didn't, I owed it. I told him that it wasn't there because id didn't exist. I told him to hold no while I check. I could hear him shifting the phone back and forth. I use XXXX XXXX to monitor my credit so I looked and sure enough nothing. I told him this. He said he didn't have the time to waste with arguing and hung up on me. I went back to my office and saw the same number on my phone. They left a message. XXXX XXXX was the name she went by and her phone number was XXXX ex XXXX. The name was c & m associates. I think this is a scam to scare people into giving them money and when they found out I monitor my credit they hung up.

I was contacted in XXXX by XXXX XXXX from the offices of XXXX and XXXX to collect on a debt for a bank account that they stated I owned. I got the account number of XXXX from them which presumably was a XXXX checking account. I sent them letters from XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX that showed I satisfied my debts with XXXX. The issue arose when the letters showed account numbers that did not belong to me. I then called XXXX to have them validate whether I owned the accounts or not. They said that the account number provided to me by them was not or never was owned by me. The account numbers on the letters that I had did associate to my accounts though. Those were both satisfied. I then spoke with XXXX XXXX and argued numerous times with her about the debt. When I requested that they validate the debt, she informed me that they were not going to do that and the file would be closed. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I received a phone call from C & M Associates Group, Inc and spoke with XXXX XXXX. He was trying to collect on this same debt that XXXX XXXX XXXX were trying to collect on. I went through the whole process again and contacted XXXX again, to only find out that this account number they are collecting on still is not and never has been owned by me. When I requested that the debt be validated, XXXX then told me that they were not gon na waste the time doing that and all they wanted to do was collect the money. He then told me that the file would be closed. I asked him what I need to do to get this situation resolved and he told me that I would need to prove the debt is not mine. I am unsure how to prove something is not mine when I don't own it and their is no documentation showing that it is mine ... I know that C & M Associates Group , Inc is just going to resell this debt to someone else and I am going to have to go through all of this again. Please help me get this resolved as I do not know how to prove that I do not own something. I can prove the accounts that I did own with XXXX though. Thank you for your help resolving this matter. In the years of XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXXsome stole my identity and proceeded to get credit cards taken out under my name. I was unaware until I started to receive calls about money I owed. At this point I check my credit report and found many cards and accounts opened that I never applied for. Next, I went and filed a police report and signed an affidavit stating the charges made under my social number were not mine. The police report is dated XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX case number XXXX ; Agency ID XXXX. If this point I reach out to all the companies that were not my accounts and got letters stating the debits would be removed and I would not longer be bothered. Just to name some of the other accounts that were Identity theft account XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX XXXX. All the accounts were closed and never heard from again except for XXXX XXXX this account was never closed and marked as identify theft since every year since XX/XX/XXXX I have received a call from a lawyers office stating I owe the money and that a judgement is being filed against me. I proceed to send them Police report, Signed Affidavit and letter from XXXX stating they have removed the debt. Normally they say OK and sorry to have bothered you. But now I have another company threating me again saying they have all information and yet are still going to proceed with the judgement so for 17 years I have been harassed by these companies due to XXXX not standing by the letter they sent us and keep selling off a debt I do not owe. Also I would like to note that when this was all happening my personal information the credit report companies have a lot of misinformation such as wrong birth dated, wrong mailing address, and said I was married and at the time I was not and never had been. At this point I am not sure what needs to be done since I have done everything I was told to do and yet nothing has changed. And finally I have never received an email or letter saying I owe a bill.

I was contacted in XX/XX/XXXX by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was called about an apparent credit card that I opened in XX/XX/XXXX. According to XXXX XXXX XXXX, I paid on the card until XX/XX/XXXX ( for all I know, the card could have been paid off! ). According to the said group, The card was on my credit report, then taken off due to statute of limitations. The debt was for approximately {$5000.00}. The person I talked to on the phone stated that if I paid {$1000.00} within a month, he would settle the account, if I didn't he would sue me and the judgement would go on my credit report. I explained to the person I talked to that I vaguely remember even having the card. I didn't know that I could be sued for such an old debt. It seemed odd that such a high balance could be settled at such a low amount. I didn't understand why I was given such a short time frame to come up with a large amount of money for me. When I explained to the person I talked to that a lot had transpired since XX/XX/XXXX, included a XXXX dad who survived a housefire, who I'm now Power of Attorney of. When I asked to at least have more time to get the money, that was refused. I didn't want to promise that I could get {$1000.00} in a month when I couldn't. What if I made that promise when called, and my XXXX dad died. As Power of Attorney, I would be in charge of end of life arrangements, while going through the grief process myself. Would XXXX XXXX XXXX still take me to court then? It is inhumane to put such ultimatums on people in lue of the inevitabilities of life!

Hello. Today I received the second of two calls from a company called XXXX, XXXX and XXXX. Also appears they operate as C & M Associates out of XXXX IL. This apparent debt collector is claiming I owe a debt from approximately 20-25 years ago. I explained to the individual on the phone that I have no knowledge of any such debt and found it very odd that through loans Ive secured over the years i.e mortgage, vehicles, etc. this record of debt never surfaced on any report from the three credit reporting agencies.I also proceeded in asking him to mail validation of this debt. Seemed like a logical request. He mentioned he already had and didnt intend to do so again. To be clear, I have no record of this letter he states he mailed. To top it off the amount hes claiming I owe is over {$9000.00}. At that point in the conversation he appeared to become aggravated and proceeded to threaten me with a lawsuit and wage garnishment asking me if I still worked at xxxxxxxxxxx. He went on to state I have plenty of available credit ( quoted that amount ) to pay what he was asking for. I explained to him that I have no intentions of paying anything without the proper supporting documentation, and at this point, it would be in my best interest to contact an attorney in hopes that we can get to the bottom of this. He hung up on me. Given what Ive learned so far and the failure for the individual to provide any form of meritorious documentation, Im suspicious this could be a scam.

On XXXX XXXX, XXXX I received a voicemail from a company stating that their client had exhausted every effort trying to contact me, it was urgent that I return the call to avoid federal recommendation rendered on my behalf with or without inference. I reached a representative on XXXX XXXX and was informed that the " client '' is a debt from XXXX that was flagged from an audit. I stated that debt had been resolved in the past and I did not appreciate being contacted to resolve a debt already taken care of. I was told the company was attempting to keep me from further legal action. They offered to zero out the " interest '' ( supposedly {$9000.00} over the original debt ) down to the original amount owing and take payment of 10 % to fully discharge the debt, a mere {$740.00} that I can pay at {$25.00} a month. I stated I needed a letter from them outlining the creditor information, what they were proposing and reiterated this was not an offer to pay -- I needed something in writing from them before paying anything. I was told the letter would take 4-5 days. I then did some research and found the paperwork from the original debt. The debt alleged by this company was paid, I have confirmation of payment and that the credit reporting bureaus would be updated to reflect paid in full. I then called the company back stating I dispute the claim and that the debt had been paid in full as of XXXX.

I received a phone call from a debt collector claiming to be from a law office on an old credit card account that was from XX/XX/XXXX. The man that I spoke to was named XXXX at XXXX he attempted to call me several times while I was driving but the call kept dropping. When I was finally in an area that I could return a call to him, I did, and the following conversation transpired that left me feeling UN-eased and uncomfortable. He asked me if I was going to take care of the debt, and I replied no because there was a savings account attached to that credit card that would be used in the instance that I defaulted on the credit card. He told me no there was n't and I replied yes it was from XX/XX/XXXX, then, he told me that the account was opened by me XX/XX/XXXX. I then told him that I did n't go by the name he was stating over the phone since XX/XX/XXXX when one year later I went into the XXXX and the military legally changed my name to my maternal mother 's last name. So I told him good luck proving that I existed by that name XX/XX/XXXX, because I 've been going by my maternal mother last name since XX/XX/XXXX ; at which time he responds to me by saying I knew you were a transgender and bye. So what recourse do I have to pursue any matter in this situation with this certain individual that totally got it wrong and made a derogatory offensive remark to me?

I received a call this evening from XXXX & XXXX XXXX. The woman on the other and proceeded to tell me that she 's been trying to contact me and that she had exhausted all means they were at the point were I was going to be served and sued. I proceeded to ask why and she told me I had a {$6000.00} debt in XX/XX/2003 but I had not paid. I asked why I had not received any communication and she said it had been sent and they would not send anything else because they have done their part. I went on to explain that I need the debt validated however the lady became very upset and told me that they had no reason to validated as if I did not agree to pay they were going to go ahead and pursue charges to me. I explained I do not have XXXX knowledge as my son has an incurable XXXX but I 'm paying for. I 've sold everything to help pay for my son 's medical needs at this time. she proceeded to laugh at my situation which was heartbreaking. She told me that today she would agree to take {$3000.00} as a settlement and at that point they would no longer pursue charges or sue me. I told her I do not have that kind of money and she requested that I give her pre-paid checks. I do not think it 's fair I have to pay a debt I do not know what it is nor fair that I 'm threatening to be sued

He states that the last activity was in 2004. Claims that they have authorized an immediate lawsuit against me in my county unless I quality for their hardship program AND immediately pay off this debt. The caller refused to identify himself, provide phone number, or to confirm his company name, address, etc. I repeatedly demanded written information be mailed to me. The caller refused to confirm that any mailing had been or will be sent. Only that I had to know about the debt and had to pay immediately unless I want the sheriff at my home. I was unable to get any direct contact information from the caller. The caller just kept threatening that a lawsuit was pending unless I pay. For the record : 1 ) I do n't owe the debt, and, 2 ) the alleged debt is out of statute for Pennsylvania. What is my recourse with the company?

A woman called and asked if XXXX XXXX was available. I told her yes and she said she was calling regarding a " XXXX XXXX that I defaulted on in 2007. '' I asked her to send it to me in writing and she stated she would not, this was a last attempt before the matter was sent to litigation. I then asked for the company information which she deflected twice and finally provided. I asked her if I was being sued and she said yes, you will be sued if you do not resolve this matter immediately. I told her any outstanding debts from my past have been paid in full. She then told me I needed to fax proof that I had resolved the debt. I asked why I would be required to send physical proof when she was unwilling to do the same. She responded that she was n't being sued. I told her I was n't going to send anything until they sent me proof first and when I tried to explain that I have a XXXX credit score she kept interrupting me. I ultimately hung up the phone.

I settled the debt in XX/XX/XXXX and since then I have received various phone calls throughout the years claiming I still owe the debt and will be sued. Today I received a call from XXXX who was willing to tell me my social security number, addresses, maiden and married names, and said they 're going to file against me for this very debt. This is not the only company to call me about this over the last 11 years ( the account was originally charged off in XX/XX/XXXX ). I need these harrassing calls to stop. XXXX XXXX XXXX ( the original debt ) confirmed today that it was charged off and sold to XXXX XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, and that business is closed. I settled and paid to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, and they are also closed. How can I track down what happened with my settlement and make the collections stop?
