I received a letter in the mail from brother loan and finance company stating that I owed money on a debt and that if I didnt make a payment a payment arrangement within in the next 5 days from the letter dated XX/XX/XXXX that they would forward the account to their collection attorney. I called brother loan and finance when I received the letter asking for information on debt due to having no recollection of the loan. They asked for the last 4 of my social in order to pull up my account which at first I was hesitate due to recent scams. I gave it to them anyway and the representative said that the loan was from a long time ago. I asked if they could send me information on the loan and she said she would. I never received verification on the debt so I believed it to be a scam. Then 3 months later I receive a debt collection notice stating I am being sued for {$4300.00} With this letter from their attorney it stated I had a week to get back in contact with him to either make arrangements or set up payment arrangements. His letter was dated XX/XX/XXXX but I didnt receive it until XX/XX/XXXX. Then on XX/XX/XXXX I receive a summons stating that I am being sued for {$4600.00}. The attorney had already filed the suit on XX/XX/XXXX which is 5 days after he typed up a letter. I live in another state so I did not get this information as quickly as I might have living in the state of Illinois. States that the charge off amount was {$440.00} so how is it now {$4600.00}? I feel this is a scam and the amount they are requesting is obscured.
